As the last month of so-called autumn sets in, the average temperature gently drops to 20°C (68°F) and the nights cool off to a 17°C low average. With humidity reaching 74%, the evenings are quite pleasant and the dew points are low enough to not cause any discomfort in this tropical setting. The high average is expected to reach 22°C on the hotter days, so pretty much still an excellent time for some beach fun and island holidays.
The days are slightly shorter than found in October with up to 8 hours of splendid sunshine and a continuously high 80% average chance of sunny days across the board. Precipitation increases by a few drops, reaching an average of 15mm, and just 6% chances of rain throughout the month of November. Chances of cloudy days also remain low at 5%, once again translating the figures into one more month of blissful sunshine and generally clear blue skies, with great temperatures to match.
Wind speeds are steady at 13mph and chances of full-on windy days are still high at 55% on average, most of these tropical breezes still coming from the north-eastern African shorelines and northern Atlantic regions, combining cool and warm with the inland currents from the mountains. Autumn here will feel more like a very pleasant continental spring, something akin to what May might look like in Paris, for example.
The ocean temperature drops by one degree to an average of 21°C (70°F), so you can still take advantage of the warm waters and playful tides on the hotter days of the month in order to swim, snorkel or even engage in parasailing and wind surfing. Again, don't forget the SPF lotion, as the sun may seem mild but it will still affect those who disregard the effects of UV rays.
Twin fin Surf Camp is awesome on so many levels, including an on-site surf schools and an outdoor freshwater swimming pool. Their bunk beds go for £100 per night and that includes surfing lessons aplenty! This time of the year is perfect for learning this water sport because of excellent weather and ocean conditions, so it's only natural that this little camp gets booked up really fast. The accommodation also features a mini-skateboard ramp and a terrace with cosy outdoor furniture, and if you want, you can even take on the barbecue facility in front of the lush tropical gardens.
If you haven't stumbled upon it during your trips along the coast below Puerto de Santiago, you must try spending a day or two on the quiet and beautiful beach of Playa San Juan, another one of the stunning natural stretches of black volcanic sand that are so characteristic to Tenerife. The colour of the sound favours the absorption of the sun's heat, making it in a way that the sand is always warm and a pleasure to lie on. The clear ocean laps at the smooth shoreline and the rocky clusters nearby are perfect for snorkelling. Palm trees provide plenty of natural shades, and restaurants and café terraces line this beach, giving you a wide selection of choices for both lunch and dinner.
If you've had enough of the delicious local and Spanish cuisine offered by so many great restaurants, you can always stop by Bobby's Indian Tandoori Restaurant, where they recreate some of the best dishes from India, complete with genuine spices and sauces that just make every meal an absolutely divine experience. The prices are also wallet-friendly and the service quality is very high. The highlight of the menu would probably have to be the curry, the chicken Bhuna and the mushroom rice.
Another excellent local choice for Playa de la Arena in terms of dining and drinking would probably have to be El Meson. It's great for families with children too, as they serve kid-sized portions as well. The restaurant is very well known for its friendly and welcoming staff, and the service is equally laudable. On top of that, we heard that they make great sangria with a solid touch of champagne, and that the steaks are simply out of this world, all soft and tender and juicy!
There aren't many public holidays left to celebrate in the Spanish calendar, but one notable date has to be Dia de Todos Los Santos, or All Saints Day. It is also known as All Hallows Day and follows up on the internationally known Halloween. Expect plenty of feasts and street fairs to keep the plazas busy during this time of the year, as the Spanish and the Canarians love to celebrate religiously-charged holidays.
