December in Nassau is a wonderful experience, with fun and frolics to be had and fantastic weather. The temperatures have fallen to a much more comfortable level at this time of year, with an average temperature of around 22°C to be expected. This is ideal for exploring the area and taking part in some of the more outdoorsy attractions and activities the area has to offer. The average high temperature can reach a warm 26°C during the hottest part of the day, however evening lows are perfect for a cool down after a long day, reaching around 18°C.

Sunshine is ever plentiful, although slightly reduced at this time of year, with around 7 hours of sunshine to be expected per day across the month. You will find that crowds are much less, aside from the actual festive week and New Year, and this means more space to roam, and more room on the beach. The average water temperature during the final month of the year sits at a very pleasant 26°C, which gives you the ideal conditions to head under the surface and visit some of the underwater residents of the area; there are certainly some interesting and colourful marine-life to view, and you won't struggle to find a diving school who will help you do this.

Where to Stay

The final month of the year is a busy one in Nassau, as the weather has calmed down and the festive season is upon us. This means there are plentiful accommodation options available to visitors at this time, including The Island House. This particular choice has a year round outdoor pool and spa centre, and is only around five minutes' drive from the nearest beach. There is an outdoor terrace and restaurant, for al-fresco dining, and all rooms are comfortable and spacious, with many eco-friendly perks.

If you want something a little more private, in terms of a holiday home, then Humes House is a good option. This has a very homely feel, with a shared kitchen, and a fantastic location, close to everything you could ever need. The on-site bar will also sort out your evening's entertainment.

Finally, we have the very large Courtyard by Marriott Nassau Downtown. This is a good spot for business visitors, but also for leisure, with large modern rooms to enjoy. The large outdoor pool ticks that particular box, with modern seating all around the outdoor space.

Hit the Beach

Most beach front hotels have private stretches of beach, and this means you can kick back and relax, whilst being waited on hand and foot. Cable Beach is the capital's main stretch, but this is also the busiest and most crowded. Having said that, there are countless other smaller beaches, which are hidden away, all around the coastline of the capital, so you won't be short of somewhere to lay your towel down for the day.

Restaurants & Nightlife

For a truly upscale restaurant, to give you the best way to end your year, check out Graycliff Restaurant. This is a little on the pricey side, but for a special occasion it's worth it. The champagne cocktails are to die for, the lobster is delicious, and it is all washed down with some of the best and most extensive wines in the country.

If tapas is more your thing, check out Dali Modernistic Tapas, where you can choose from a huge range of different dishes from the chalkboard. This is a great way to try lots of different things all at once, and many seafood options too. The restaurant is very modern-looking, mid-priced ranged, and laid-back all at the same time.

Of course, you might simply want to enjoy more Italian food, then Luciano's of Chicago is for you. The tiramisu here is amazing, and you can enjoy fine dining with a much lower price tag than you might expect. The location is fantastic, and the views will blow your mind.

What to Do

Perhaps you want to do a little pre-festive season shopping, or you simply want to enjoy spending your holiday cash, and in that case you are spoilt for choice. Straw Market is a good traditional place to go, and as the name suggests, sells traditional straw goods, which are all handmade. Nearby Festival Place is a large shopping mall and entertainment district, with air conditioning and lots of cafes and bars for a pitstop halfway through your retail therapy. Do not forget to head to Swiss Pastry Shop, as this place sells the best cakes you will find anywhere on the island!

The cooler weather also means getting out and about is much easier, and Predator Lagoon is a must do for those travelling with kids. This is a large nature park with an aquarium filled with huge sharks and other oceanic predators.

Sea Lion Experience at Dolphin Cay is the ideal way to finish off your year and will certainly give you something to talk about into the New Year. You can meet these funny animals and enjoy spending a little time with them, with the help of a trainer to give you important advice and information on how they live, what they do, and also to help you spend better time with them. If you want to swim with dolphins, you can do that here too.
