Gibraltar is an island located on the southern border of Andalucia, Spain, at the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula. It has a population of around 30,000 people. The main reason people travel here is because of the Rock of Gibraltar, one of the most visited sites in the region. Thousands of visitors arrive on the island each year to scale to the peak of The Rock.

Types of Gibraltar Holidays

Gibraltar very tourist friendly, family friendly destination and travellers tend to stay anywhere from a few days to a few weeks at a time. Itâs also a great base from which to venture into Spain and the surrounding areas. Deals can be found for all inclusive type holidays but for the most part, visitors will likely want to find a hotel or villa type accommodation and these available year round.

The Main Holiday Season

From April until October is relatively warm on Gibraltar; average high temperatures range from 20°C to 23°C. The warmest and busiest months of the season are the summer months of June, July, August and September with average high temperatures being around 25°C to 29°C. The winters are very mild due to the Mediterranean climate so itâs not uncommon to find visitors on the island year round.

Popular Excursions and Activities in Gibraltar

The most popular excursion on Gibraltar is the trip to the top of the âRock of Gibraltarâ, one of the most famous landmarks in that part of the world.

The most popular way to see the rock is to take the cable car to the top. There is also a bus tour offered daily with a guide who provides visitors with information on the rock and the main sights. However, for those who like to hike, then the walking tour is a must.

There is a nature reserve in Gibraltar that houses Barbary Macaques, the only free-roaming native monkeys in Europe. A trip to the Apes Den is well worth it for the chance to see these lively monkeys.

Beaches in Gibraltar

There are several beaches located on Gibraltar. The first is Catalan Bay, outside of the city but easily accessible via public transport. The quiet and secluded beach is a great spot for a swim or a bit of sunbathing. Conveniently, there are also several restaurants on the beach. Of those, Sea Waves Bar serves the best seafood.

Sandy Bay is also a quiet and rather secluded beach. It has clear blue waters and sandy beaches perfect for swimming and sunbathing as well as diving, snorkelling or kayaking.

For families with children, Rosia Bay is the best beach on Gibraltar. It has been specifically developed with kids in mind and includes a water playground plus several restaurants and cafes.

Gibraltar Nightlife

Gibraltar offers a lively nightlife scene that is sure to be appealing to everyone who visits. If dancing is a priority, there are a number of nightclubs that are open until the wee hours playing the best in house and dance music.

Most of the nightlife attractions can be found on Casemates Square in the centre of town. If dancing isnât what youâre looking for, there are plenty of pubs and bars.

Accommodation in Gibraltar

For those on a budget, self catering apartments are an easy option. The Both Worlds apartments are conveniently located right on the beach. Many of the apartments are available year round and off season deals can often mean bagging a bargain.  

Another option is the Marina Bay Marin Views apartments. Like Both Worlds, Marina Bay has weekly holiday rentals available year round and they are located near the heart of the city.

For a hotel stay, Rock Hotel Gibraltar is one of the best budget accommodation available in the city. It has free parking, a swimming pool, restaurant, room service and spacious rooms. The hotel comes highly recommended by its past guests too.
