July Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

There's only one word to describe the weather in Djerba in July, and that's hot! Whether it is the middle of the day or the middle of the night, warmth is all around, making it absolutely blissful for all those that visit.

If you want to experience the summer season in this town, you should definitely visit in July. The average temperature is 27°C which means the heat can take some time getting used to. But once you have, it seems like a whole new world, and one that is there to be enjoyed.

Daily temperatures will soar to an average high of 32°C in July in Djerba, which is only beaten by one degree in the hottest month of August. But there have been some far hotter times, with record temperatures in July 1996 reaching an incredible 46°C.

On other days, there might be a milder weather pattern. Average lows are usually around 22°C, but don't be surprised if these 'cooler' temperatures are only ever experienced at night.

The coldest temperature ever recorded was still a very pleasant 10°C, so there's no need to worry about being chilly.

The beach is the perfect place to be in July. And with average sea temperatures of 27°C there's plenty of opportunity for fun. Diving and kite surfing are just two of the water activities popular on the beaches in Djerba, with almost all beaches offering some sort of entertainment.

And you certainly don't have to worry about rain spoiling your day. In July it is expected not to rain on any day. And while there may be a little moisture late at night, there certainly isn't much chance of it spoiling your holiday. Instead you can expect an average of 10 hours of daily sunshine in a beautiful Mediterranean climate throughout the whole island at this time of the year.

Where to Stay

When you are looking for an oasis in the middle of all the heat, book a room at Dar Dhiafa.  With 10 individually decorated rooms, the attention to detail at this hotel is meticulous. Situated in the heart of er-Riadh, this small boutique hotel is different from any other place to stay in Djerba, and certainly something you will never forget. Enjoy truly personal service in this very relaxing accommodation which also offers four luxury suites from a collection of traditional houses within the village itself. Two swimming pools, a full hammam and a high quality restaurant are also onsite which means you can enjoy all the highlights of Djerba without ever leaving the hotel.

While the towns are getting busier as the peak season progresses, Dar Saada can offer some serenity in the middle of all the excitement. The family room is perfect for those that want to stay together or there are other spacious dwellings for couples and sole travellers. Take full advantage of the beautiful pool side area, which is perfect for a romantic dinner or to sit and relax. Thanks to its secluded location, you will need a car to reach the various beaches and restaurants in the area. But with such welcoming hospitality and tranquil surroundings, it is the ideal place to get away from it all.

Though the Amphora Menzel is based in the main Zone Touristique on Djerba, it has a beautifully authentic atmosphere to it. The high quality décor and genuine warm reception from the staff ensure everyone that stays here feels truly appreciated. All the food for the guests is prepared by the onsite chef who uses local ingredients to create some outstanding flavours. Or if you would rather cater for yourself, the spacious apartments are well equipped. Enjoy breakfast by the pool and watch the sun climb through the sky. With all amenities close at hand, it is a wonderful place to be.

Things to Do

July is the time for festivals in Djerba, including the International Festival Djerba Ulysse. There is a real party atmosphere across the island when they celebrate the cultural heritage of Djerba. Concerts, film screenings and theatre performances are all on offer, as well as a range of entertainment usually focussed in the squares of Houmt Souk. There are events to celebrate the pottery skills of the local craftsmen and sporting demonstrations for those with more physical prowess. There is even a day dedicated to the talents of women. Running all the way through until August, there's plenty for everyone to enjoy.

July traditionally sees the start of the Muslim month of Ramadan in Djerba, although the actual dates change from year to year. This means some of the more authentic places to go to eat and things to do may well close their doors during daylight hours. However, in keeping with tradition during this festival, when the sun goes down it is a time to celebrate. Many of the restaurants will have special menus that will start after dark. But when Ramadan finishes, it is a time to push the boat out. And while this will not happen until the later part of August, it is well worth staying for.

Hit the Beach

The Plage des 5,000 Ans is the most popular public beach on the island of Djerba, and is full of locals and visitors enjoying the warm July sun. Also known as the Beach of 5,000 Years, this is the closest public beach to the centre of town. But it is still a lot more laid back than most of the hotel led waterside locations. The whole area has a more rugged ambience and is kept more in tune with the nature it surrounds. There are no sun beds or parasols for hire, just wonderfully clear, calm waters and miles of lovely golden sand.

Even if you love the beach at your hotel, it's still worth taking a trip to Hotel Hasdrubal Prestige Thalassa & Spa and enjoying their sandy facilities. Awarded a blue flag for cleanliness, this is reputed to be one of the best beaches on the island thanks to its facilities, its situation and its beautiful blue waters. The sand is kept perfectly pristine and there is a full waiter service right next to the water. Enjoy the superb amenities of the hotel itself. Then next time you come to Djerba, you might just decide to stay there.

Restaurants and Nightlife

Situated inside the Hotel Green Palm, Le Cyclone is considered the place to go to party in Djerba. The live DJ keeps the temperature rising, even when it's over 22°C outside. But there's plenty of cool drinks to keep you going. Prices are acceptable, especially for a high class night club. And the décor looks fantastic the kind of place you want to go and enjoy yourself.  There are plenty of bouncers to keep everyone nice and safe. And if you don't like what they're serving behind the bar, just bring your own bottle and pay the corkage. There's always space to move and, if you're out for a special night, book a VIP table, for the ultimate evening event. Open until the early hours, it's a great night for everyone.

For a true taste of Djerba, book a table at Restaurant Essofra in Houmt Souk. This highly authentic restaurant serves a full range of traditional dishes in the original style that are absolutely packed with flavour. The restaurant itself is very cosy and familiar and the prices are very reasonable, especially when you consider the quality of the meals. When in season, order the stuffed calamari or sample the traditional styles of couscous. Just don't expect to wash your meal down with a good glass of wine, Restaurant Essofra only offers soft drinks to observe traditional Muslim beliefs.

When you want to wake up your senses, head to Cafe Omrane for some of the strongest coffee on the whole island of Djerba. This very friendly café will serve you with their own variety of caffeine fuelled power, perfectly accompanied by a range of homemade cakes and desserts. Start the day off right with a trip to Café Omrane or head down in the evening for a wonderful way to end any delicious meal. At any time of day, when you need a caffeine strike, a cup at Café Omrane is definitely going to hit hard.
