What's the weather like in Tenerife in June?

June in Tenerife North marks the beginning of summer for the region. Dry and warm conditions rule the month and make it another great and wonderful time in which to plan a vacation. The one drawback during this time of the year is the very windy conditions. Most days in summer can be windy with a strong breeze blowing in from the Atlantic Ocean.

The average daily temperature for the month is 22°C (72°F).  Average afternoon highs are very nice with temperatures topping out around 25°C (77°F). With the influence of the sea breeze, average overnight lows will only drop about six degrees to a low of 19°C (66°F). This is warm enough that visitors can leave their jackets at home while on vacation. However, it is always important to know exactly what conditions can be expected when leaving on vacation, so be sure to check a 14-day forecast.

For the most part, visitors can plan on leaving the raincoat or umbrella at home as well. Much like May, this month is also a very dry one for the northern half of the island. On average, only 10mm of rainfall is seen over the course of the month and it typically falls all in one day. As a result, visitors can expect a lot of sunny conditions and the region experiences an average of 12 sunny hours per day this time of the year. With dry and warm conditions, visitors can plan to spend a lot of time outdoors.

Sea Temperature

This month marks the beginning of beach season, as the waters are finally getting warm enough for an extended swim. At this time, sea temperatures average 21°C (70°F) so swimmers can safely venture into the water without the need of a wetsuit.

Dia de las Albombras

June brings many festivals to Tenerife.  While there is no hard date for it, the feast of Corpus Christi can fall in the month of June.  To celebrate it, locals observe the Dia de las Albombras, or Day of the Carpets.  This is a day when they make intricate carpets made out of flowers and other natural materials in the streets. Once they are complete, the townspeople walk over them, essentially destroying them.  Be sure to see them before they're walked on!

Fiestas de San Juan
