What's the weather like in Tenerife in May

While the previous month starts to usher in some drier conditions, it is May when the region truly enters the driest part of the year. The drier conditions can make this month an ideal time to visit Tenerife North as visitors are almost guaranteed good weather to spend outdoors taking in the sights.

Overall, the month only receives and average of 10mm of precipitation spread out over only 3 days. This means that the vast majority of the month is sunny and dry with an average of an impressive 11 hours of sunlight per day allowing for plenty of time outside.

Travelers during this time of the year will experience some very pleasant weather conditions. Most of the time, there is little variation in temperature from the overnight lows to the afternoon highs. This is due to the influences of the nearby sea that keep temperatures fairly steady. Monthly average afternoon highs are 23°C (73°F). Visitors can definitely pack shorts or short sleeves for the afternoon, but longer sleeves will be needed in the evening hours with average overnight lows of 17°C (63°F). The daily average for this time of the year is 20°C (68°F) on any given day.

Sea Temperature

During this time of the year, the Atlantic Ocean begins to warm and sea temperatures are now hovering near 18°C (64°F). While still on the cool side, it is now possible for more people to be comfortable going for a swim after enjoying the nearby beaches. Additionally, the air blowing over the warmer water allows for warmer conditions on shore.

In order to help plan a trip more effectively in terms of what to pack, be sure to consult the 14-day forecast to make sure there are no weather surprises in store.
