December Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

The Mediterranean climate provides warm and pleasant weather all-year round and has a reputation for unmitigated sunshine. Therefore, Santa Ponsa, located on the Balaeric island of MajorcaSpain, is an ideal place to visit on your Christmas break if the only concession you want to make to a 'white Christmas' is the white sandy beaches.

The average daily temperature in December is 10°C, a significant three-degree drop since November, but still much warmer than, say, Great Britain during this time of year. It's the third-coolest month of the year, one degree warmer than the mid-winter months of January and February. The mercury drops to 5°C during the night in December, a nighttime temperature comparable to March. In the afternoons, temperatures average 15°C, a comfortable temperature for a wide variety of outdoor activities. Both daily low and high temperatures decrease by about two degrees in the course of the month. The nighttime lows drop from 7°C to 5°C, while the daytime highs fall from 17°C to 15°C. The temperature of the Mediterranean Sea averages 16°C and is only suitable for swimming for hardy visitors.

Rainfall in December is virtually the same as it was in November. The total amount is 44mm and there are 7 days with rainfall. Even though December is the fourth-wettest month of the year, that doesn't mean that it's really that wet whatsoever. Most places in Europe are much, much wetter this time of yearnd there still are 24 days on which not a single rain drop falls from the sky. The average chance that it will rain on any given day in November is 37%, a percentage that's essentially constant throughout the month. The most common type of precipitation is moderate rain, happening on 47% of the days with rainfall. Other types of precipitation that may occur are drizzle (19%), thunderstorms (16%) and light rain (14%).

Cloud cover averages 43% in December and doesn't change at all in the course of the month. This percentage will, in fact, remain fairly constant all the way through April. The length of the days is also virtually constant throughout the month. December 1 is the longest day of the month with 9.33 daylight hours. December 21 is the shortest day of the month and of the entire year and has 9.22 hours of daylight. December 31 is a tiny bit longer, with 9.25 daylight hours.

December is the darkest month of the yearloud cover is high and the days are shortnd this is reflected in the number of sunshine hours. The average December day has 6 hours of sunshine, which is the annual low. We can still conclude, however, that about 2/3rds of any day in December is sunny, not too bad at all.

Port Adriano Hotel is quite possibly the most exclusive hotel in the area. Located in the town of Magaluf, this five-star adults-only hotel is the place to spend a luxurious holiday. The large rooms and suites offer all comforts you could possibly be looking forhere is a gorgeous sea view, free Wi-Fi, a large bathroom, a mini-bar and individual temperature control. Other amenities and services include a gourmet restaurant, a magnificent spa, a nearby golf course, and a bar.

A bit more affordable is the four-star Hotel Delfin Siesta Mar, situated just 150 metres from the beach and sea. All 113 rooms, 3 of which are equipped for handicapped guests, offer fine views of the sea or gardens. Facilities include a buffet restaurant with show cooking, a bar, a fitness centre, beautiful gardens, free Wi-Fi in public areas and an outdoor pool with sun terrace.

For local Spanish food as well as typical Irish and American fare, you should head to Bobby's Bistro & Bar. This cozy place offers everything from breakfast and lunch to dinner and drinks.

Blessed with a marvelous location overlooking the Santa Ponsa marina, Da Vinci Restaurant has an excellent reputation as a relaxed and atmospheric Italian restaurant. You can go there in the afternoon for pizza and beer, or for a stylish candlelit dinner in the evening. This recommended restaurant is both laidback and classy.

Now is the perfect time of the year to get away from the Santa Ponsa coast and head into the island's interior. Why not explore some of the stunning surrounding countryside and local villages and towns? Hiring a moped or motorbike is a great way to get about and will make for an exciting and enjoyable sightseeing trip.

A more active way to get around is by bicycle. Majorca is a major cycling destination in Europehis is, after all, where many professional road cyclist teams come to prepare for the new cycling season. The island's various landscapes, from excruciating climbs up steep mountain peaks to long and winding roads over undulating hills, offer the perfect terrain to put your cycling skills to the test. There are plenty of signposted cycling routes and many hotels provide safe bicycle storage and laundry rooms to wash cycling clothes. Besides lying on the beach, cycling is without question one of the most popular things to do in Majorca.
