What's the weather like in Los Cristianos in January


In Los Cristianos during January, the average low temperature is 59°F (15°C). The average high temperature is 71°F (22°C). These mild temperatures are to be expected on the island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. The climate is considered subtropical and, therefore, mild all year long.

Los Cristianos Beach for January

Playa de Los Cristianos is one of the most popular beaches in the area. This golden sand beach is located at the eastern east of Los Cristianos and is sheltered by a small harbor. The beach is perfect for the whole family as there are hardly any waves making it perfect for the little ones and nervous swimmers.

Las Galletas Beach otherwise known as Las Burras Beach is located next to the coastal village of Las Galletas on the southern tip of Tenerife. This beach may not be as well suited to young families as it is mainly made up of black pebbles, making it relatively unsuitable for sunbathing, however, the beach is actually great for scuba diving as it is teeming with exotic fish.

Playa de las Americas is a renowned purpose-built holiday resort located right next to Los Cristianos. The resort offers a family-friendly beach which is lined by an array of bars, restaurants and shops. The beach also offers a variety of amenities including sun beds, parasols and toilets.

Bars and Restaurants

El Cine is a very popular seafood restaurant located behind the promenade in Los Cristianos. At first glance this place may seem a little ordinary, however, the food is to die for, and there are often long queues of people waiting to get a seat at the weekend.

Oliver's With A Twist is one of the most highly rated restaurants in Tenerife on TripAdvisor. This family-friendly eatery is located down Calle Hermano Pedro de Bethencourt in Los Cristianos and serves a delicious array of Mediterranean cuisine. However, if you miss the food back home, they also serve a variety of delicious homemade pies.

Los Cristianos also boasts a thriving nightlife, especially at this time of year when New Year is under full swing. If you're looking for a lively night out make sure to go to the Shambles Bar in Los Cristianos. This popular British bar features a well-stocked and affordable bar, as well as a karaoke machine, where you can sing your heart out every night of the week.

On the other hand, Charlotte's Bar and Restaurant offers a more laid back atmosphere, situated right on the beachfront in Los Cristianos. The restaurant overlooks the port of Los Cristianos, where you can watch the ships and fishing boats sail by.

Things to do in Los Cristianos in January

Genuine Fishing in Los Cristianos, Tenerife offers a variety of fishing excursions from four hours up to seven hours. There are many different fish species swimming under the water here including Blue Fin, Spearfish, Barracuda and Skipjack, depending on the seasons. However, they also offer private charters and specialist trips where you and your friends or family can concentrate on what you really want to catch such as Tuna fish or even sharks.

The Teide National Park is just under an hours drive away from Los Cristianos. Declared a national park back in 1954, this area of stunning natural beauty features an enormous volcanic crater, which measures up to 30 miles in circumference. Known as Mount Teide, this currently dormant volcano rises up to 12,200 feet, making it the highest peak in the whole of Spain. During the winter months, Mount Teide is often below freezing and is covered in snow.

Off the coast of Tenerife and La Gomera there are around 28 species of both resident and migratory whales and dolphins which swim through the waters. If you are a lover of wildlife you should definitely hop on one of the daily whale watching and dolphin trips that leave three times a day from Los Cristianos Harbour.

As Tenerife is a relatively small island you can see most of it without having to travel very far. San Cristobal La Laguna is a highly recommended trip whilst staying in the area of Los Cristianos. Once the capital of Tenerife, this historic and charming city has now become a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which features beautifully preserved architecture from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. 

Dates for the diary

There are several events that tourists would be advised to plan trips in order to ensure that they witness these things. First, the New Year's Eve/New Year's Day celebration is one to take note of. The evening starts with families having a traditional meal together. Then everyone goes out into the streets for fireworks and parties. Finally, the bars and clubs come alive for the rest of the night.

Epiphany is also held during January. This is the official end to the Christmas holidays, the day when presents are finally given out. Although there are no gigantic public celebrations, this is considered a national Spanish holiday and is an incredibly special time to be in Los Cristianos.
