June Weather Averages

Sorted by popularity:

Weather Lowdown

June is the beginning of the warm season in Kos which sees the highest temperatures and the driest climate of the year as rainfall becomes a rarity. This is the typical season to visit Kos with the most favorable conditions of the year in terms of hitting the beach. The average temperature at the beginning of this season in June is around 22.7 C (73 F) which is accompanied by a northerly sea breeze for a nice Mediterranean feel.

At the beginning of June the highs and lows pick up where May left off as they continue upward at 26 C (79 F) and 18.3 C (65 F) until they reach their peak in July. Since the weather rises all month this is the coolest part of it. Chance of rainfall remains on a decline and has another major fall this month coming in at 10 %. Though the cloud coverage doesn't fall as steeply as the rain or rise as steeply as the temperature it does fall gradually beginning the month at 40 % (partly cloudy).

As June progresses the highs rise above 26.6 C (80 F) on around June 10th and don't fall back below that mark until the end of September. The lows are mostly around 20 C (68 F) during the second week or so of the month as they continue on their path. Probability of rainfall falls to 5 % during the middle of June cutting in half the chances to 1/20. Cloud coverage also falls down 5 % to 35 % (mostly clear) coverage.

By now you should know that the weather is fairly straightforward in June as by the end of the month the highs continue their rise to end it at around 29.4 C (85 F). The lows continue as well and end the month at 22.2 C (72 F) as they don't fall below the 21 C (70 F) mark until the middle of September making the end of June its warmest period. Chance of rainfall continues its fall to 3 % making rain nearly nonexistent during this time. Cloud coverage ends June at around 30 % (mostly clear) so expect clear skies as July comes in.

The average amount of rainfall in June is 8 mm divided unevenly into 3 days out of the month. Rainfall decreases as the month progresses so there are higher chances that it will appear at the beginning of June. If rainfall does occur do not expect it to ruin your vacation as it will most likely be moderate or light rain since thunderstorm season is over.

If you love to swim and enjoy the beach, June is a great month to be in Kos as the average sea temperature is around 22.2 C (72 F). This is the start of high sea temperatures which lasts surprisingly into October. Also as cloud coverage drops and the sky begins to clear up, the average daily hours of sunshine rises to 13 hours daily. The dry conditions of the warm season can be quick to burn you so remember to stay hydrated and take the necessary sun block precautions.

Where to Stay

June is officially the start of the high season in Kos, so expect there to be crowds of tourists as the island comes alive during this time of the year. Some of the smaller villages in the countryside may still have accommodation available but they will be higher priced than normal due to the increase in demand. This is why it is always good to book in advance for the high season as Kos especially Kos Town can get very full since it is a small island compared to the amount of people that want to visit each year.

Stay near the summer buzz of the season in Psalidi at the Michalis Studios and Apartments which is a 20 minute walk to Kos Town and 300 meters away from the beach. Rooms vary from a studio, 1 bedroom, or 2 bedroom to accommodate travelers of all types. Amenities include a swimming pool, snack bar, satellite TV, gymnasium, a pool table, table tennis, and Wifi access.

Holidaymakers can relax near the main city center of Kos Town at the Platanista Hotel in Psalidi. This resort is on a quiet road which is surprisingly close to the main waterfront and provides great accommodations with seamlessly integrated Venetian and Mediterranean architecture. They have the basic facilities you would expect with a restaurant, pool area, and fitness center but with the added dimension of a tennis court.

Stay at the Nissia-Kamares Hotel in the secluded village of Kardamena on the spacious southern coastline of Kos. The charming Greek atmosphere of these apartment style rooms inspire a feeling of having found the "real" Greece. Take a dip in any of the two pools or sit back and lounge in the sun while drinking an ice cold beer or summer cocktail. Their BBQ nights are also very lively during the high season and a great way to bond with your temporary neighbours.

For an all inclusive resort provising a comfortable and pleasant experience visit the Robinson Club Daidalos located in Antimachia. This beautiful resort has everything that the others have, but with an amazing sunset terrace for a view of the sunset on the beach horizon. That and the sense of community that permeates throughout the hotel as you will more often than not be dining with others. Other things include a swimming pool, a bar and a tennis court.

Hit the beach

June is the first great month to hit the beach in Kos since the average sea temperature is above 21 C (70 F) and rainfall is rarely a factor. The beaches of Kos are enjoyable on any part of the coastline with the more popular beaches being on the northern and north eastern coastline since they are close to the main waterfront of Kos Town. The more relaxed and private beaches will be on the southern and western coastline as they are more distant from the crowding that the ferries cause.

If you are looking for a beach away from the popular areas of the island try Psilos Gremos Beach located in the Kefalos Gulf more towards the Western coastline. This beach gives a sense of isolation since tall verdant cliffs encase it to make it feel concealed, but it actually has a restaurant and a few popular areas that will most likely have visitors during the high season. The good news is that since this beach is so big you can definitively find a private spot to relax.

Another great beach to hit in June is Polemi beach which is on Kos's southern coast near the Psilos Gemos. This beach is also large, but it is different in the way that it does not have any accommodations with the exception of a kiosk with some sun beds and parasols. This beach has lush green vegetation and soft white sand perfect for a barefoot stroll and paddling.

Where to Eat and Drink

Usually Kos Town, Psalidi, and Lambi are the main areas with a wide selection of restaurants that cater to vacationers, but as June rolls in restaurants and bars in other villages will begin their summer endeavors as well. The three areas mentioned above on the eastern coastline of Kos will always be lively and packed while villages like Mastichari, Kardamena, or Kefalos will have a more natural environment. Kos is such a fantastic place that wherever you go you will find great cuisine and great views so dining really depends on your mood and preferences.

Visit the Taverna Ormedon which was opened in 1997 and serves traditional Greek cuisine with fresh ingredients from Kos. This simple yet lovely tavern located in Zia has the perfect setting for a meal with a view of the whole island from their top story patio. Dishes you should try here are the lamb, pork, dolmades, and homemade pies.

If you are looking for something closer to Kos Town try the peaceful setting of the Blue Phoenix which is situated right on beautiful Lambi Beach. This restaurant is not like any other as it changes atmospheres from a casual easy going place during the day to an elegant fine dining experience at night. The service is excellent, they serve large food portions, and their pizza and salads are the best on the island.

Things to do

There are numerous amounts of places, attractions, and activities to do while you are in Kos. Now that it is June there are even more options to choose from since everything is active and ready for the high season. This means that even scuba diving or a glamorous boat tour is not out of the picture. You can start your day by scuba diving at amazing dive spots with beautiful wildlife, have a picnic on the beach for lunch, and then hit Kos Town at night for a great dining or nightlife experience.

Create long lasting memories when you visit the Memories Bar located on the main road in the Tigaki village. This bar is great for people of all ages mainly because there is something to do for everyone. You can choose to sit outside and watch the evening strollers while drinking a cocktail, Watch sports on the TVs indoors, or even go through the back door to the dance floor and bust some moves; there is a reason why it's called Memories Bar.

If you have never tried kite surfing before Surfpoint Greece Kitesurf School in Psalidi, Kos is a great place to start. Their dedicated instructors ensure that you will have a fun time while remaining safe. The beaches during June are perfect for this water sports whether you want to go extreme or have a relaxing glide on the Aegan Sea.

Enjoy a delightful ride around Kos on a beautiful day in the Dodecanese Islands of Greece with Kos Mountain Bike Activites. These bikes are top notch and quite inexpensive to rent with a knowledgeable staff that gives great advice. You can choose between going on a bike tour to explore the island with someone who knows it in and out or you can grab a map of the trails and give it a go on your own, either way what better way to spend some time on an island.
