1. IRAKLIO - good base to explore Crete
WeatherWindy - sea too rough to swim but walked along some beautiful beaches. We were told by the locals the seasonal wind was early this year it normally comes in Sept. Temp was around mid 70's to lower 80's/ F 20-30 C, but the wind made it feel cooler than this so it was easy to burn if not careful. Shops plentiful and both local and imported goods available. We will be going back this year to on of the resorts on the North coast.
HolidayWent self - catering as we like to try the local cuisine - food excellent everywhere we tried had fresh ingredients and a good selection good for vegetarians as there are many local specialities based around veg (I'm not a veggie btw).
Accommodation was basic but we expected that for S/C, however it was clean and had fridge cooker etc. aircon was extra but we didn't need it.
Places RecommendedKnossos - catch the public bus services from Heraklion bus station.
Agios Nikolos - beautiful location but beaches not so good.
Heraklion Museum - good collection of Minoan artifacts
Recommend Heraklion to others
