Weather in Disneyworld
Walt Disney World Orlando is the most visited entertainment complex in the world, located in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The resort is made up of four theme parks; Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom, and two water parks including Disney's Blizzard Beach and Disney's Typhoon Lagoon.
The weather in Orlando is generally warm all year round due to its sub-tropical climate, with an average annual temperature of 22.4ËC. The sunniest months on average are May, June and July when each day receives around 10 - 11 hours of sunshine, so it's no surprise that Florida is nicknamed "The Sunshine State". The weather in the summer is often very hot and humid with the average temperature in July and August being 28ËC. However these can also be the wettest months, with July receiving on average 196mm of rainfall and August 171mm. But in the winter months Orlando receives a lot less rainfall with an average of 52mm in December and 57mm in January. Although the sunshine hours are less, with an average of seven hours per day, the climate still stays generally mild with an average high temperature of 21ËC.
Disney World is particularly a popular destination in the summer months due to its guaranteed hot weather, however if you want to escape the humidity, the resort is also a great place to vacate too during the winter months where you are still guaranteed sunshine.
Spring finally arrives at Disney World around March time. The weather at this time of year is generally dry and sunny with temperatures starting to gradually increase. On a hot day average temperatures can soar to 28°C mid April so it's a good idea to bring sun cream to protect your skin and a light coat for cool evenings where temperatures can decrease to 12°C around early March. The amount of sunshine hours are also very good at this time of year as they can reach an average maximum of 10 hours per day.
Crowds in springtime are also starting to get busier but generally they are moderate compared to the height of summer. Spring break is also a popular holiday time for US schools and they usually break up from mid-March to mid-April, so the couple of weeks in between these dates can get rather busy.
The summer months at Disney World are the hottest time of the year, however it's also in the middle of the major rain and hurricane season. The rainy season usually begins in June and lasts until the end of September. July receives the most rainfall with an average of 196mm throughout the whole month, however it's still one of the hottest times of the year with an average temperature of 28°C and sunshine hours reaching a peak of 10 to 11 hours per day. Orlando is also regularly hit by thunderstorms in the afternoon during the summer season which consists of high wind, lightning and heavy rainfall, in some cases even hailstones.
The main hurricane season runs from June 1st all the way through to November 30th, although due to the location of Disney World being inland, hurricanes have a tendency to weaken before hitting Orlando, this results in heavy thunderstorms most afternoons throughout the summer. It's also very rare for a hurricane to hit Disney World and the theme parks hardly ever close down due to this issue. Despite this the crowds are at an all time peak in the summer months and queues are very likely for a lot of rides. To avoid these it's best to visit them in the evenings, but if you decide to spend the day at a theme park it's advised to constantly top up on sun cream, as the sun can be very intense. It also gets extremely humid at this time of year with an average of 95%; so don't forget to keep hydrated! It's also probably wise to spend a lot of your time at the water parks Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.
Autumn runs from September to October and is one of the best times of year to visit Disney World Orlando. During this short season the weather is generally warm with an average temperature of 27°C in September, whilst the temperature starts to gradually increase with an average of 24°C. However, the month of September receives quite a lot of rainfall with an average of 160mm throughout the whole month, but in October the rainfall significantly drops to just 86mm. Although the sunshine hours are still quite high just before winter as on average Disney World receives eight to nine hours of sunshine per day.
Crowds in September and October are also very low compared to the height summer, so you won't have to worry about standing in long queues, as most children would have gone back to school by the beginning of September.
The hurricane season officially starts on June 1st and runs through to November 30th, however it is very unlikely for Disney World to be hit by a hurricane, as the resort is inland. You may still receive some afternoon thunderstorms and showers, but the theme parks usually stay open.
Disney World is a great place to visit in winter as temperatures can reach 23°C around midday. Many people escape the cold from back home and vacate to Disney World and Orlando in the months between November and February for a warm winter getaway. Winter is also surprisingly the driest season of the year with November only receiving on average 48mm throughout the whole month and January only 57mm. January and February are usually the coldest months, however temperatures can still reach an average maximum of 22°C and evenings are usually cool with an average temperature of 10°C, so it's advised to bring a lightweight coat if you decide to go for a night out. Sunshine hours also decrease at this part of year but are still good at an average of seven hours per day.
Christmas and New Years are the most popular times in winter as there are lots of events going on such as Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party and Holidays Around The World which take place around the Walt Disney resort to celebrate the festive season. However January and February are both great times of year to visit as the crowds are very low and prices are generally cheaper, although some of the rides go through refurbishment at this time of year.
