Playa Punta Nizuc
If you're looking for somewhere in Cancun to snorkel, it's got to be Playa Punta Nizuc. Located on the southern tip of Isla Cancun, close to Club Med, this beach is home to an offshore reef which boasts an abdunance of marine life. If you want to get a closer look, you can sign up for a diving excursion and dive the 30m to the bottom. Divers have reported seeing barracuda, sergeant majors, manta rays, grupers and giant lobster, so it's definitely worth doing.
The statue from MUSA underwater museum is another readon Punta Nizuc is such a popular diving spot. Called "the Gardener of Hope", this artistic attraction was created by Jason deCaires Taylor and shows a young girl lying in a bed of coral. Thanks to the shallow water and gentle currents, the sea is suitable for adults and children of all levels to swim, snorkel and scuba dive. Unfortunately there are no amenities onsite, so you'll have to bring your own food, drinks and shade.
San Miguelito Beach
For those who can't decide between a day at the beach or visiting archaeological ruins, San Miguelito Beach offers the best of both worlds. Since this beach is located outside the Hotel Zone, it's a lot quieter than many of the others in Cancun and offers secluded golden sand and peaceful waters calm enough for swimming and snorkelling. Beach facilities are limited to sun loungers, shades, showers and a few snack bars which serve typical Mexican food and cold drinks.
The San Miguelito Archaeological site is what attracts most people to this beach, set just a few steps away behind the newest Mayan Museum. This site boasts 1,000m2 of jungle with winding paths which lead to an assortment of ancient structures. The Mayans were believed to have inhabited the site more than 800 years ago and there are over 40 structures found within, only five of which are open to the public.

When it comes to evening entertainment, Cuatro Elementos is the place to go. Boasting some of the resort's best talent, including solo artists, bands, comedians, musicians and singers, this bar also offers a varied selection of drinks available for low-cost prices. Shows take place Thursday to Sunday every night at 9pm and Xbalamque Resort guests benefit from a 10% discount off their bill.
Things to Do in Cancun in June
Scenic Tower
If you want to snap some incredible photos during your stay, make sure you visit the Scenic Tower in Xcaret. This 80m-tall tower features an enclosed observation deck which takes visitors from the bottom to the top where you can enjoy unparalelled views of the whole resort. Within the observation deck, there's a multi-lingual tape playing which tells you about everything you can see as you slowly rotate. Some of the things you'll see from the top include the Riviera Maya, Cozumel, Gran Tlacho Theatre and St Francis of Assisi Chapel.
Avenida Kukulkan
When it comes to retail therapy, Avenida Kukulkan is one of the best places to go in Cancun. This shopping district boasts loads of souvenir kiosks, designer boutiques and other shops which sell everything from artwork and handicrafts to clothes and local produce. As well as the shops, you'll also find plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars in this area. Although it's not typically Mexican - Avenida Kukulkan is highly commercial and Americanised - this area is still a great place to explore.
