    Even though the temperatures are cold and the days are very short, December can still be a great time to visit Berlin, especially around the Christmas season. Thanks to the mix of architectural styles from the long history of different groups and cultures in the city, the buildings become almost magical in the dark days of winter.

    Snow

    Snow is a possibility this time of the year in this part of Germany and when the white powder covers the older buildings, it adds to the wonder and magic of the city.

    Precipitation

    Nearly 51mm of precipitation falls this month, coming over 16 days in the month. Expect to contend with a mix of rain and snow during your visit this month and be prepared with both an umbrella and the proper winter gear. You'll want a winter coat or jacket, gloves, hat and scarf to keep you warm while you're out and about exploring the city. The chance of rain or snow on any given day is 40 percent and there's plenty of cloud-cover this month as well.

    Temperature

    With only two hours of daylight on average this month, you're in for dark days during your visit. Thankfully, you'll find plenty to do indoors, from exploring a local museum to sipping on your favorite German beer in a local bar. Along with winter gear, you'll want plenty of warm layers, as the average daily temperature only hits 1°C (about 34°F). Surprisingly, the city stays warmer than the nearby town of Lubars, thanks to the insulating effects of the urban environment.

    The lows during the evening and overnight hours drop down to below freezing, getting all the way down to -1°C (around 30°F). In the warmest parts of the day, the highs don't get much better, reaching up to only 3°C (about 37°F).

    La Tia Rica

    Offering up South American flair, La Tia Rica mixes Latin, Chilean and Spanish flavors on its menu.     Bellevue Palace

    Bellevue Palace, the official residence of the German President, is a white neoclassical palace that was built in 1786. It was first built as a private residence for Friedrich the Great's youngest brother Prince Ferdinand of Prussia. It has undergone many renovations and transformations over the years, depending on who has called the palace home. A palace tour can be arranged for interested tourists and visitors who want to learn about the history of the palace and the role it played in Germany's history.

    Classic Remise Berlin

    Even if you aren't a car buff, it's still worth a visit to see the vehicles at the Classic Remise Berlin. The collection is housed in a former tram depot and features different repair garages, services and dealers. You can shop for classic car spare parts, view hundreds of different classic and model cars and even find accessories and memorabilia. During your visit, be sure to check out the on-site restaurant.

    Christmas Markets in Berlin

    1st December 2019 to 31st December 2019

    During December the city of Berlin will be offering 60 Christmas market choices from traditional to urban. The markets give visitors the chance to soak up the atmosphere as well as finding unique and charming gift items to take back home. The different Christmas market locations will include Charlottenburg Castle Christmas Market, Gendarmenmarkt Christmas Market, Potsdamer Platz Christmas Market, Spandau Christmas Market, Lucia Christmas Market, Staatsoper and Opernpalais and more. Most markets will be offering delicious festive food such as roasted chestnuts, pretzels, sausages and sweet treats. You will also be able to pick up traditional German handicrafts or fashionable clothes. Date for the 2015 Christmas markets are yet to be confirmed.
