Bayahibe is a small town located on the south eastern coast of the Dominican Republic. The area is famed for its outstanding natural beauty, including beautiful beaches, clear water and vast array of wildlife.

Flight times from the UK to the Dominican Republic are around nine hours, and combined with the time difference and vastly different climate, it can take some time to get used to your environs. This means that most people choose at least a fortnightâs stay in Bayahibe to really be able to relax and enjoy your holiday.

Bayahibe is something of a tropical paradise and as such is fairly remote. This means that the majority of accommodation is hotels and resorts that offer a range of food, drink, leisure and entertainment facilities.

Most people opt for an all inclusive holiday, which means you get main meals, snacks, drinks and access to leisure facilities included in your holiday price. This is a great way to budget and avoid over spending on your holiday, so you can rest safe in the knowledge that everything is taken care of and focus on relaxing!

Please note that facilities do vary between resorts and some may require a surcharge for certain activities.

Bayahibe is a hugely versatile resort that offers holidays to suit everybody. As most accommodation is resort based, families are very well catered for with the option of kidsâ clubs, childrenâs swimming pools and playgrounds â" while parents can relax by the pool and in the sauna!

The paradisiacal environs also mean it is perfect for a romantic getaway. Secluded beach accommodation where you can wake up and walk right on to the white sand is perfect for getting away from it all or even to celebrate your honeymoon!

And older travellers wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of every day life will find the quiet privacy of Bayahibe to be the perfect tonic.

Bayahibe enjoys a tropical climate and as such has very warm weather all year round. The variations in climate come in the form of the dry season and the wet season.

The dry season is roughly November to April and the wet season occurs in what we would call the summer months of May to October.

The actual temperature in Bayahibe remains fairly constant throughout the year, but during the wet season it is extremely humid and therefore can feel much warmer than it is. A visit during the wet season also means you will experience some rain during your stay. However, these usually take the form of short showers during the day so will not impede your holiday too much. The warm rain will probably provide a welcome respite from the intense heat, and strolling along the beach in the rain can be very romantic! There is also a risk of tropical storms as well during this time.

Hurricane season is at its peak in August and September, so you should be prepared for these to occur if you visit at this time. Hurricanes are not guaranteed however, but you should be vigilant for any weather warnings at your resort.

The dry season is the most popular time of year to visit as it extremely sunny and warm, without the sweltering humidity and chance of storms that the wet season brings. Seeing as the dry season coincides with the European winter, this is the perfect excuse to get away from the bitter cold!

As there is no real âoff-seasonâ in Bayahibe, prices for accommodation remain fairly constant all year round, though of course during the wettest months there are usually better offers to be found.

Scuba diving is one of the most popular activities in Bayahibe, with the high visibility and warmth of the water providing ideal conditions.

Underwater sights to see include grass beds, mangrove forests and coral reefs, as well as a number of shipwrecks and caves for more advanced divers. There is also a wide array of marine life such as manatees, turtles, lobsters and whales!

Staying above water, boat tours and even helicopter trips are another way to enjoy the beauty of this stunning stretch of coastline.

Nature lovers can also take a trip to the islands of Saona and Catalinita which form a National Park rich in wildlife, including many species of birds and tropical fish.

Of course the main draw of any holiday to Bayahibe is lazing on the beach in bright sunshine. Bayahibe Beach, about one mile from the town centre and nearby Dominicus Beach, about three miles away, both boast miles of white sand and warm, shallow water. Most resorts open out straight onto the beach and even feature beach bars with waiter service.

In the evenings there is a range of nightlife to experience.

For a gentle way to while away an evening you can head into the centre of Bayahibe to the Super Colmado, which is where the locals tend to gather for an evening drink and some light food.

For those wanting a touch of glamour, you can head to the Casino Diamante Dominicus in the centre of nearby Dominicus. Here you can have a flutter and sip cocktails to the sound of live music.

And for party animals among you, the Stars Club is a bar and disco perched on a hill overlooking Bayahibe.

Most resorts also offer on site entertainment in their own bars and discos.

Bayahibe has a huge range of resorts to choose from.

Dreams La Romana is one of the most popular resorts in the area. It boasts a beachside location as well as 3 swimming pools, a spa and a number of restaurants serving food such as seafood, Italian, French and Dominican. There are also 3 golf courses and a casino!

Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach is also right next to the beach and set among lush tropical gardens. There are a number of bars and several restaurants offering Mexican, pizza and buffet-style dining. You can also take advantage of 4 swimming pools, a number of tennis courts and a spa.

And the Cadaques Caribe is set among landscaped gardens with a large outdoor pool and direct access to the beach. There are three bars and dining options include the Ocean Grill for fresh seafood and the Pizzeria Trattoria. For those with children, there is even a water park to keep kids entertained!
