Antalya Hotels in May

Affordable and simple, the Belkon Club Hotel in Serik is an option to escape the busier and more expensive hotels in Antalya itself. This hotel is a truly budget-friendly hotel but that does come with some of the luxuries that you may expect. The hotel does have an attentive staff that will strive to answer your questions and meet your needs as they arise. And despite being a budget hotel, the Belkon Club Hotel does have a bar within its grounds and a restaurant if you don't feel like venturing out.

For budget accommodations within the city of Antalya, the Mesut Hotel is a popular option. Considered a fine value for the money spent, the Mesut Hotel doesn't come without complaints however. Many online reviews offer up that this resort is a great value but it is not as new or luxurious as many others in the area. However, if you are just using your hotel as a place to crash between holiday adventures, this hotel could be ideal for you.

The striking exterior of the Concorde De Luxe Resort is matched by an equally stunning interior. The large all-inclusive resort accommodates guests from all over the world and of all ages and mobility levels. This hotel boasts a large swimming pool, shuttle service and free high-speed wireless internet for each guest.

Located adjacent to white sand beaches, the Sherwood Breezes Resort is extremely popular with beachgoers.  This all-inclusive resort has a wide range of restaurants and snack bars to enjoy throughout the day. The restaurant and bars are within a quick jaunt from the beach. Here you'll never be very far away from the surf.

Endlessly stylish, the Hotel SU has been called the Apple of hotels by an online reviewer. It is extremely popular with young travellers because of its sleek design and practical functionality. Each room has a miniature refrigerator that comes with a larger than average selection of beverages to enjoy between activities.

Bars and Restaurants

Located in the heart of Kaleici, or the Old Town of Antalya, the Patio Restaurant offers old world, European charm. Open from breakfast through dinner, the restaurant has a menu with favourites like homemade Italian cheeses, omelettes, charcuterie and fresh seafood dishes. The restaurant prides itself on creating dishes that are syntheses of French, Italian and Turkish cuisines. But best of all, the portions are generous and the prices are fair, all for lovely courses.

For an intimate meal with family or friends, the Lal Café is a great place to spend a quiet meal. This small and quaint restaurant has outdoor seating which is perfect to take advantage of the growing summer temperatures. Many Turkish and Mediterranean classics are on the menu like kebabs, local seafood catches and soups. The only drawback is the café can be a hike as it is on a steep hill, which will change depending on what side you are walking towards it.

Things to do in Antalya in May

No trip to Antalya is complete without a stop by Perga or Perge, the ancient Greek city. Just a short drive from the city, these ruins were once one of the wealthiest cities of ancient civilisation. Built around 1000 B.C., this city became powerful and one of the most powerful Christian cities during the time of Constantine the Great in the 300s A.D. The ruins are also known as Eski Kalessi or Ancient Perge. The ruins contain a theatre, Pagan temple, two churches and a temple of Artemis.

For some a little more modern, the LykiaLinks golf course offers a beautiful 18-hole course overlooking the Mediterranean. This course is considered one of the top 100 in Europe and is spread across over 80 hectares of land. This golf course is a part of the LykiaWorld hotel so you can even make reservations here if you'd like. The golf course's website provides a detailed breakdown of the course so you can prepare for your afternoon if you would like. Fact sheets are available as well as equipment for rental on site.

One truly beautiful natural wonder outside of Antalya is the Koprulu Canyon. This canyon is also the name of a Turkish national park that has several restaurants just outside of its grounds. It is recommended that you spend several hours here because of the wealth of things to do. One popular item to do is rafting down the river that created this canyon. By rafting down it, you'll get to enjoy the beauty of the canyon like no other.

Or if you'd rather cool off a bit, you can explore the Mediterranean with the Kas Explorers. This adventure company offers a range of diving and snorkelling excursions, depending on your activity level. Run by a local couple, the management and instructors are attentive and thoughtful to your interests. Of course, you can always go out on the boat for an adventure while other members of your party do the underwater exploration.

Dates for the diary

May marks the beginning of festival season in Antalya as well as some national holidays. On May 19th, Turkey celebrates the Commemoration of Ataturk, also known as Youth and Sports Day. Like many national holidays in Turkey, this holiday has transformed from solely a historical day into one that is used to teach children character as well as national heritage. The historical holiday commemorates when Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, Turkey's first president, arrived into the city of Samsun during the Turkish War of Independence.

One very popular cultural holiday is the SunSplash Antalya Festival, which lasts for one week during the month of May, please check online for the latest dates as they vary from year to year. This festival is held at the Hillside Su Hotel and draws international and local revellers alike. The festival has DJs and artists from around the world, and from all genres, performing on the beach.
