Weather
Grey and wet (although warm) for 2 days but fortunately beautiful for the one day we went on a fjord cruise.Holiday
We had been warned about the prices but they really were exorbitant; OK for the rich Norwegians but impossible for most everyone else: £10 for a glass of wine; all main courses in the evening £30 .Alesund was charming but strangely quiet after 3 pm on a Saturday when most shops and many bars and restaurants close for the weekend.
We stayed at the Hotel Brosundet and although the rooms and shower cubicles were compact, it was charming and well appointed. Excellent buffet breakfast with a great selection.
Places Recommended
Restaurant Lyss. One of the few places we found open on Saturday evening - excellent value (compared with elsewhere) and delicious well presented food.Ingrid's glassworks, Molovelen 15. The most wonderful modern glass, hand blown on the premises, and very reasonable. The best find in Alesund.
