What's the weather like in Zante in August

August brings to Zante, Greece, the warmest days of summer, yet the temperatures are not too hot to be unbearable. The major beaches may be crowded but are large enough to accommodate all visitors. The city squares are alive and festive, ideal for photo taking and people watching. Restaurants can be full, but most take reservations and the bars and clubs always manage to fit in a couple more people.

Temperature

The August heat has arrived, yet it is not unbearable and some feel it is perfect for a summer's vacation. The average temperature is 26ºC (79ºF) with a high of 31ºC (88ºF) and a low of 21ºC (70ºF), pleasant by any standards. The highest recorded temperature on August 1st was 35.5ºC (96ºF) in 1998 and the lowest was 18ºC (64ºF) in 1999. The dew point, a better measure of comfort per person, feels on average, like 15.5ºC (60ºF)

Rainfall

There may be only three days of rainfall with an accumulation of only one third of an inch with almost a no chance of thunderstorms.

August is the peak of the tourist season in Zante, Greece. The crowds have arrived but there are plenty out of the way spots and enough things to do for everyone. The beaches are hot, the sea water quite warm, and the nightlife is festive.

Atlantis Hotel In Laganas 

is the best of both worlds: quiet and relaxing in the late afternoon sun, but only ten minutes from the strip and the nightlife. The pool and grounds are pleasant but choose a room opposite the bar for a quieter night. The hotel is suitable for families. The rooms all have balconies and good-sized refrigerators. The bar has televisions sets for various sports events. Thursday is barbecue nights and an all you can eat and drink buffet for 20 Euro.

Maria Apartments 

There are 139 rooms at the Maria Apartments in Katastari, Alykes where Theo, Alex and Billy will offer their warm hospitality. The upper floors have great views and breeze. Swim in the pool before heading to the nearby beach. The bar serves snacks or larger meals and has televisions to view sporting events, but also has a few, hidden corners to escape the noise. There is a supermarket nearby, rooftop pool and bar.

 Hotel Strada Marina,

with its rooftop pool and bar, is located in the center of Zakynthos town, close to the shopping area. The hotel is in pleasant surroundings and has breathtaking view of the yachts in the harbour. Despite it's elegant appearance, the prices are reasonable. Try the local lamb chops or tzatziki salad in the dining room.

Zante Beach for August

Koukla beach, 8 miles southwest of Zakynthos Town and near Laganas and Limni Keriou, is sandy, family friendly, and surrounded by lush greenery. It is considered on of the most picturesque beaches on Zante. Umbrellas and sunbeds are available and there are plenty of apartments and rooms nearby. Fresh seafood and drinks are served at the waterfront taverns.

Xygia Sulphur Beach in Xygia, is a unique beach experience. Sulpher springs flow to the sea and, when mixed with the salt water, creates a really special experience. The surface water is cold but the hot sulphur springs gurgle from the bottom of the water creating a natural spa. Yes, the smell of rotten eggs in in the air, but the soothing waters more than compensate.

Bars and Restaurants

Sunset BLVD Bar is an English, Greek, and Italian Restaurant next door to the Contessina Hotel in Tsilivi. It's menu is varied with hamburgers, pizza, sandwiches, crepes, and omelets plus assorted cocktails. Pool tables and billiards are featured as well as satellite television and screens to follow every nation's sporting events. There is free WiFi for those wishing to stay in touch.

TheAgnadi Restaurant on the Argassi to Vassilikos road in Argassi, is owned by the same family, which runs the villa next door. The oven roasted chicken with herbs and Greek roasted potatoes are favourites. Other dishes include swordfish, veal, Zakynthian Beef, saganaki, Greek salad and home made chips.

Aperitto, holds a strong reputation for being one of the finest restuarant bars in Zante. Perfectly located in Agios Sostis, the restaurant looks out to the Ionian Sea and offers a rich menu of Greek dishes and Mediterranean delights. The range of wines on the menu along with the jazz and soul music make every visit memorable.

Things to do in Zante in August

The Solomos Square in Zante Town is great destination for sight seeing, dining, or just people watching. The square is surrounded by traditional architecture of the island with its arch-shaped windows and arcades. The centre is dominated by a bust of Dionysos Solomos, the national poet of Greece who wrote the poem Hymn to Liberty, which are the lyrics of the national anthem of the country. Visit the public library with its 55 thousand volumes and the Post-Byzantine Museum with gold trimmed statues, icons and art woodcuts. Summer evenings come alive with visitors from all over the world.

Andreas Water Sports in Alykanas is boasts a helpful and supportive staff dedicated to safety on the water. They will instruct you on the proper jet ski operation before turning you loose on the waves; or rent a boat for a self-directed cruise.

Another great water experience is an excursion on a sea kayak. Dimitiri will pick you up at your hotel, stop for coffee on the way to the beach, then instruct you on the safe use of the kayaks before leading you on your watery adventure. Cruise the shores of the beaches, visit the caves, or take a breathtaking sunset trip upon the waves.
