A lovely sunny day but a high wind.Holiday
St Ives is a pretty, small town with lovely beaches and quaint streets. However, the downside is parking.
We had no trouble finding a parking place but paying was another matter! There was an app to download to enable you to pay - reception was poor which caused a major problem for many and difficulties or those not using a mobile for anything other than telephone calls or texts (or not having a mobile).
The payment machines required exact money, as no change was given, so for four hours...costing £6.20...it was difficult to produce that much change.
You also couldn't pay with a credit card. The café opposite had a notice saying no change could be given for car park machines and so I expect they get fed up with people giving £5 notes and buying the cheapest thing in the shop (which is what we ended up doing). All in all, it took 45 minutes to sort it all out and many foreign visitors were left frustrated and fed up.
To cap it all, the notice on said something along the lines of "if you can't pay, you can't park". A great start to what should have been a lovely day out. Needless to say, when next in Cornwall we shall avoid St Ives!
