Weather

For the week 10th/17th June 2013 it was really warm and sunny. Now and again a little breeze helped. Perfect weather for exploring all of the tourist attractions around the area on the peninsula. The sea was very calm for ferry trips too.

Holiday

Everything came up to and exceeded expectations.

Places Recommended

Naples, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius, Amalfi coast towns, and all the little places easily reached by the hop on, hop off bus on the peninsula. Monte Faito chair lift for the spectacular view from the top.

Weather

We went in mid-June and the weather was perfect - around 25-27 degrees Celsius every day and balmy evenings.

Holiday

Stayed at the Gran Paradiso Hotel which is in an elevated position so has great views.

Places Recommended

We visited Capri, Pompeii and travelled along the Amalfi coast.

This journey was everything everyone said it would be - fantastic.

A beautiful coastline with everything from great scenery, good food and lots of culture.

4. Torna a Surriento - including daughter's wedding!

Weather

We have been on at least 5 occasions (including our daughter's wedding 2 years' ago) during July/August, & only every experienced one day of rain. Went most recently last year, for 1 week. The rest were hot in the day, cooled by the sea breezes & comfortably warm in the evenings, when it is wonderfully relaxing to sit & enjoy a drink at one of the many pavement bars, or take a 'passegiata' like the locals.

PLEASE NOTE my star rating for accommodation is 4 due to the experience we had 2 years ago (see below). Continental would be 5!

Holiday

Excellent! Last year stayed in CONTINENTAL- FANTASTIC! Definitely 5 star! Lovely waiters, delicious food, central location, great view. Loved it & would definitely go back again. However, 2 years' ago, we booked into Hilton Palace, kept waiting for almost an hour (told room 'not ready'), then found our room (awful!) with a side view, for which we'd paid a lot extra, turned out to be a very distant glimpse of sea through heavily laden branches of trees. Bidet towel hadn't been properly laundered (stained), mattress had red stains (Wine/blood?), wall grubby. Tour guide asked for us to be moved, told no rooms. We had no recompense whatsoever, not even an apology.

Places Recommended

Must go to the Drains - real glimpse of 'Old' Sorrento, & great shopping, cheap but good wine. Demos of wood furniture making - expensive but beautiful; a real craft. Limoncello factory & garden. Hercualneum, Pompeii, Vesuvius, Peastum - better preserved temples than in Greece. Amalfi drive & if you get a chance, go to see the Abbey at Monte Cassino. Beautiful.

Weather

Weather was lovely, either pleasantly warm on the day the sun didn't quite get through the clouds or beautiful sunshine. Evenings remained warm but comfortable.

Holiday

Holiday was delightful, we stayed at the Imperial Tramontano in a room overlooking the bay, stunning views in every direction. We ate loads of pizza, pasta and gelato and each was better than the last. We also had some excellent fish. Waiters and shop staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Our travellers tip would be to take plenty of cash. Boat trips, train tickets, entrance to Pompeii, etc. all have to be paid for in cash so if you normally rely on cards (as we do) you quickly run out.

Places Recommended

Definitely recommend Capri and Ravello. In Capri we took an organised tour once on the island which enabled us to see much more than if we'd travelled alone. Our guide called the public transport "sardine buses" and we could see why. Stunning views from Anacapri. We took the boat to Amalfi which is quicker than driving and gives an alternative view of the Amafi coastline. Then a cheap tourist bus to Ravello, highly recommended.

Weather

The weather was beautiful for all 7 days we were there. A nice sea breeze greeted us on our walks around the bays. It was alot warmer inland, in the 30's.
The evenings were gorgeous, light until 9ish and pleasantly warm. Ideal for sitting outside with a cool drink watching the spectacular sunset going down behind Capri.

Holiday

Our holiday was lovely. The hotel excellent, food excellent, and reasonably cheap lots of variety,eg. fresh caught fish to perfectly cooked pasta.
People so friendly and willing to help, especially if you atempted to speak Italian.
Everywhere we went was clean.

Places Recommended

We recommend Sorrento itself, a lovely historic town, pompei, Herculanum (you need to see both and compare) Vesuvius. Fanastic views of the Bay of Naples, Amalfi, Positano, Ravello. Best to go by local transport-much cheaper. If you are limited for time then book with the tour company, you get a good taste for the places and can go back at a later date at your leisure. Capri is a must at night, and can only be booked through tour company. Much quieter as most at night tourists have to leave the Island by 5ish.A drink at the quesesanna hotel is an indulgence but a must !!

8. Sorrento - The Best Holiday Ever!

Weather

The weather was nice and improved as the week went on. A couple of very windy mornings, but this died down towards the afternoon. The last few days were very hot and clear, must have been well into the 30's.

Holiday

The holiday was brilliant, best i've been on. Sorrento itself is absolutely stunning, and the majority of the locals (apart from a few moody shop assistants) were so friendly and attentive.
The food was nice although I felt they have tried a little too hard to cater for Eastern Europeans, by having a lot of basic pasta/pizza dishes we would get back in the UK on the menu. I expected the food to be a bit more relevant to the area. That said it was all lovely still and didn't have one bad meal.

Places Recommended

I recommend you get a good map of Sorrento and walk around the whole town, there is lots to see. Go and have lunch down at the old harbour (Marina Grande), it's lovely. Also check out the old mill ruins, I've never looked down at something so steep before, it makes you very dizzy but is worth it for the view, it looks like something out of a fairytale!
We also went to Pompei which was very interesting. I suggest you get the local train service rather than paying for a organised outing, the trains are every half an hour and only cost 1.90 each way.
There are lots of boat trips you can take to local islands like Positano and Capri, these are supposed to be stunning.
