Located in the northwest Aegean Sea, the tiny Greek island of Skiathos may only be 7.5 miles long and 3.5 miles wide, but it still manages to draws crowds of thousands to its beaches and historical towns year after year.

The subtropical Mediterranean climate brings mild yet wet winters to Skiathos, and December is the wettest month of the year with 66.5mm of precipitation on average. Temperatures are cool by Mediterranean standards, but certainly much different to the snowy Decembers back home, as temperatures range from 8 to 14.5 degrees celsius on average.

Located close to the harbour, the HotelStellina is very convenient for taking ferry trips to other parts of Greece. On an island steeped in the history and ancient buildings, this modern and contemporary hotel is refreshingly different, and offers rooms with private sea view balconies for as little as £30 per night. The 4 person rooms are some of the most spacious accommodations on the island, and are ideal for larger groups and families. There's a swimming pool, spa and cocktail bar on site for ultimate relaxation and unwinding.

Make the most of the winter sun and island hop around the Sporades group of islands. HellenicSeaways offer ferries between Skiathos and the neighbouring Skopelos and Alonissos islands. There are around 3 or 4 departures each day and there's plenty to see on these island including the Skopelos Folklore Museum and the seal caves of Alonissos.
