Drawing in an estimated five million tourists each year, the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico boasts summer temperatures year round, even throughout the winter months. The weather is typically unchanging and 'seasons' are generally non-existent, although the tropical climate can prove temperamental at times.

With warm temperatures of between 19 and 28 degrees Celsius, February is actually one of the coldest months here and also has some of the coldest water of the year at 26 degrees. Around 3.1 inches of rain is expected to fall over about 50% of the month so those looking for a dry holiday may find February a bit hit and miss.

Although the tropical climate means that humidity is high year round, the colder temperatures in February mean that it's often not as uncomfortable as some of the other months, so this is one of the best times of the year for tying up the hiking boots and exploring the island. Outside of San Juan, on the north shore of Puerto Rico, the area of Arecibo offers a walk through nature to the Cueva Ventana. Translated as' Cave Window' in English,  the view over the Rio Grande de Arecibo river, and the photo opportunities, are priceless.

The SalitreMesonCostero in Arecibo offers many varieties of the island's speciality: plantains and pork.

Accommodation options in the mountainous Arecibo area are limited, but the TJRanch is a popular choice. One bedroomed apartment-style lodgings are available in a secluded area for around £64 per night and a full breakfast is provided free of charge each morning.
