Things to do in Salou in April
Museum of Reus
A holiday in Salou can be about more than the beaches. A perfect attraction for the history lover is a visit to the Museum of Reus. Since 1934, the museum has strived to preserve the material heritage, knowledge and dissemination of the history of the city of Reus, as well as its neighbouring county. Showing the legacy of the past, the museum represents artwork and significant achievements that have shaped the city and helped it become the place it is today. Much of the artifacts featured can be attributed to physician and pre-historian, Salvador Vilaseca Anguera (1896-1975).
The Xalet Bonet
Another great indoor activity for those rainy April days in Salou is a trip to Xalet Bonet. The Xalet Bonet (or Xalet Voramar) was built by Ciríac Bonet in 1918. It was designed by architect Domènec Sugranyes i Gras who was a disciple and collaborator of Antoni Gaudí. The museum is a magnificent example of late modernism. The wall paintings in the interior rooms adorn the heroic departure of King Jaume I to the beaches of Salou for the conquest of Mallorca. The main façade of the building features a sundial with ceramic tiles and Neo-gothic letters, summarising a philosophy of life: 'aprofita el temps que passa i no torna' (take advantage of time, because it passes and never comes back).
