Things to do in Punta Cana in January

Punta Cana is the ideal resort for water sports enthusiasts. A 39km coral reef protects most of the coast, making it a great place for scuba diving and snorkelling. On the other hand, the section of the coast which is not protected by the coral reef is perfect for surfing. The majority of all-inclusive hotels offer guests the use of kayaks, canoes, pedalos and sailing boats within the package, so be sure to check with your hotel before you hand over any cash to water sport companies.

La Cana Golf Course

There are many spectacular golf courses in Punta Cana, each offering a unique experience. La Cana Golf Course is one of the best and boasts challenging greens complemented by stunning ocean vistas. This 27-hole course is made up of three nines which were constructed between 2001 and 2012. In addition to the course, La Cana Golf also featuresa pro shop, clubhouse, grill, bar, beverage cart service, practise areas and caddies.

The Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park and Reserve

is a great place to spend a day with the family in Punta Cana. The 1,500 acre reserve is made up of a maze of trails which lead to 12 lagoons that provide homes for local wildlife. There are loads of areas to explore here, including iguana houses, petting zoo, sugarcane exhibition and fruit tree garden. January 6th marks Three Kings Day, a religious event which is celebrated every year. This popular festival is celebrated throughout the whole of the resort, with locals attending special church services. Feast of Our Lady of Altagracia

January 21st sees this  celebration : This religious event is held in honour of Our Lady of Altagracia the protector and patron saint of the Dominican Republic. During this festival, special masses are held in churches throughout the resort, followed by a lively parade with singing, dancing and many colourful parade floats. The city of Higuey is located around 45 minutes away from Punta Cana and is where you'll find a superb carol concert held at the Basilica of Our Lady of Altagracia on this day.

Duarte Day

On January 26th, Punta Cana celebrates Duarte Day. This public holiday celebrates Juan Duarte Day the founding father of the Dominican Republic who helped the country achieve independence in 1844. On this day you can expect to special masses in churches throughout the island.
