February 27th marks National Independence Day in Punta Cana. This public holiday celebrates the date in 1844 when the Dominican Republic gained its freedom from Haiti. All sorts of patriotic events are held in honour of this day, with Juan Pablo Duarte tributes, a speech from the president of the Dominican Republic and flags decorating the whole of the resort.
Punta Cana IV Tango Festival
The Punta Cana IV Tango Festival is scheduled to take place in Punta Cana toward the end of February in 2015. This four-day dance festival is made up of loads of dance performances covering a number of tango variations, including Bachatango, Argentine Tango and Tango Salon. If you're not interested in tango dancing, there are plenty of other things for you to enjoy, including numerous beach activities and food kiosks.
