What's the Weather Like in Miami in January

Temperature

January may well be one of the coldest months of the year to visit Miami in Florida, but the weather stays mild thanks to the warm climate in this part of the world. Temperatures do stay relatively steady here: the hottest average month is July, which is 8°C warmer at an average of 28°C. That's with 6 extra hours of sunshine, so you can rest assured the weather is going to be reasonably mild no matter what time of year you visit.

High/Low Temperature

The average high temperature is around 23°C, while the lowest average is 16°C. That brings the overall daily average to just around 20°C, a perfect temperature for remaining comfortable without needing to wear winter clothing.

Sunshine

There are around 6 hours of sunshine per day during this month, so you can expect warm temperatures during peak times.

Rain

Rainfall is also at a low during the winter months, so if you are looking for a dry visit, this could be a great time of year to try. An average of 71mm of rain and just 9 days of rain throughout the month means you could well spend a dry week here if you time it right.

Sea Temperature

The sea here is also warmed by the sun, so you can expect to see average water temperatures of around 24°C, just a little bit warmer than the land. If you are planning to swim, the water will not feel cold on your skin.

Humidity

The main difference you will see is in the humidity, which can rise to very high levels in the summer months. If you are not a fan of humid climates, visiting during winter is perfect.

Snow

As for cold weather, it has only ever snowed here once: in this month in 1977, when very light flurries appeared. This event has not reoccurred since, so the blizzards you may get elsewhere in the USA are absolutely not a risk here!

Hotels for Miami in January

In January, your visit to Miami is probably going to be centred more towards shopping and cultural exploration than the beach. For this reason, it is recommended to go for the hotels off the beach which are going to offer a lower nightly rate as a result.

Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton

The Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton is just back from the beachfront and offers a more luxurious getaway at a lower price. You can also get an even better price if you are part of the Hilton Honors programme.

The hotel boasts a business centre, electric car charging station, complimentary breakfast and drinks areas, a gift shop and lounge, laundry or valet service, a convenience store on-site, a snack shop, fitness room, pool, and full accessibility. The Wi-Fi is also free.

The Lofts on the Park

If you are looking for something a little unusual, try The Lofts on the Park. These fully furnished lot apartments have been designed to give travellers a different experience to the norm, with upscale luxury in a spacious two-level loft.

You will find yourself in the heart of the city area with close links to parks, the beach, art galleries, shopping areas, and more. They are also available for booking longer stays.

Miami Guest House

For a more authentic experience, try the Miami Guest House. You can stay in a condo which serves as a B&B, with lots of great amenities: local TV, free Wi-Fi, a kitchenette, free parking, and even a free pick-up and drop-off service for Miami International Airport.

Restaurants and Bars for Miami in January

The Capital Grille

When you head out into the downtown area, it's a great idea to find some hot food for dinner to ensure you stay warm as the sun heads down. Lunch and dinner are served at The Capital Grille, a growing brand which has restaurants in a few different locations. The menu consists mainly of steaks and seafood, done to a high standard.

The Cheesecake Factory

If you head to the Dadeland Mall for shopping, you can stop for dinner at The Cheesecake Factory, a well-known American chain. Don't worry, it's not all cheesecake they have a full menu, largely of American and American-Italian cuisines.

Cafe Nikki

If you head down to South Beach you can also try Café Nikki, where you will find baked goods and fresh coffee in a French-inspired locale. The café is connected to a nightlife hotspot in Nikki Beach Miami, perfect for partying all weekend.

Clevelander

For evening drinks and entertainment, make a visit to the Clevelander. Set on the iconic Ocean Drive, this bar-club buzzes throughout the night and occupies a prime spot on the city's beach front. The bar serves a wide range of alcoholic drinks and the cocktails are renowned.

Things to Do in Miami in January

As it is a little colder in January than the rest of the year at an average of 20°C, you might want to spend more time exploring cultural activities rather than heading down to the beach every day.

South Beach

You can still head down to South Beach, however, as this area is a vibrant scene for nightlife and shopping. On Ocean Drive you will find designer shops as well as sidewalk cafés and lounge bars. You can party all night here if you like.

Design District

You can explore art and design in the design district, where you will find interior design showrooms like Holly Hunt. There is also the chance to explore art galleries here, like the Opera Gallery which has pieces by Joan Miro and Pablo Picasso and even Andy Warhol.

Deering Estate

If you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, then pay a visit to the Deering Estate. Set against the backdrop of the peaceful Biscayne Bay, this imposing country house and park dates back to the early 20th century and is a centre for history, fine art, ecology and wildlife.
