Weather

My husband and I went to Maspalomas in August 2012 and it was gorgeous, hot sun every day for the 14 days we were there, absolutely fabulous and hit temperatures of 28 degrees by 10am.
We love Gran Canaria it's so beautiful and we went to see the dolphins and wales on a trip out to sea. We had lunch on a deserted beach, it was amazing and can't wait to go back again. We would have gone last year but I had an accident so was unable to travel but we will be back this year hooray!

Holiday

Holiday was fantastic and the best holiday ever! We have made some great friends and about 15 couples have become Facebook friends, some live near us in wales others in Scotland and Stoke on Trent, and even in Germany, most of them are coming back to Maspalomas oasis club for my husbands 50th birthday this year. We fly out on 25/08/14 and it's a surprise for him as he doesn't know they are coming.

Places Recommended

The dunes are amazing that is a must visit, as is the beach which rolls for miles and the shopping center there is fabulous, I went home with 6 pairs of shoes.

Weather

We have a holiday home in Maspalomas and find the weather to be generally very good. We have experiences only one heavy downpour of rain in 5 years and this was in March. There can be cloudy days and some days are very windy, which can make sitting on the beach quite uncomfortable, but this is not frequent.

There can be very strane and unexpected sandstorms, we have found mainly overnight in Summer. There's no rain but just a strong wind for several hours and you'll wake up to what looks like snow covering everything from sunbeds to Car windscreens. Very odd when you first experience it.

We find the weather to be typically warm to hot and on the odd few weeks of the year expect very hot temperatures. We have experienced 43-44C for about 3 days in a row. Make sure you have air conditioning in Summer - you will need it and a ceilg fan in the bedroom.

Holiday

From about 5-6 years experience, we have found Maspalomas always to be pleasant and generally sunny. Always warm and great for sunshine holidays. The mountains are much cooler especially in Winter, so be prepared and don't venture for a day trip in February in a pair of shorts. Same by night, from November to March, you can find a cool nip in the air some nights but never cooler than 16-17C.
It is warm by night, but after sitting in the sun by day, you will feel the difference.

Places Recommended

There are plenty of lovely places to visit in and around Maspalomas. Try Arguinaguin market, a few miles from Maspalomas. You can take a cheap local bus. Also San Agustin is well worth a visit for its dark volcanic beach but very laid-back.

Down the coast you'll find Puerto Rico and the lovely fishing port and beach resort of Playa Mogan. Called 'The Venice of Gran Canaria' as it has waterways and canals and pretty coloured houses. You can even take a submarine trip here and see the coral reefs. Amadores beach is lovely and worth a visit, colse to Puerto Rico - take the bus for a day trip, and also the little hidden bays and coves dotted along the coastline.

The mountains are a must and even if you can stomach the hair pin bends and very steep canyons and sheer drops, you'll be rewarded with magnificent views and very beautiful little villages. You'll need a car and take your time. Try the village of Fataga for Breakfst or early lunch and head for Tirajana and the lovely arty towns within the central peaks. Sleepy, slow paced life with little bars, donkeys in the streets and people chatting in the village square playing cards and dominos. Worth while and a change from the hot beaches, even if it's for one day. (In Summer, the mountains can be very hot and sunny - beware of the altitude and the sun - it is very easy to get burnt very quickly - even under cloud!!!!)

Weather

I have lived in Gran Canaria and what ever you do, don't listen to weather channels on the internet. All the weather for Gran Canaria is from Las Palmas temperatures where there's more of the north east trade winds that make the temp 5 to 10 degrees lower in Maspalomas. Expect in the summer 27 to 32 degrees average and the winter 20 to 25, but expect days where it is very hot. I have walked across the dunes before and the sun burns through the sand and will burn your feet badly. The hottest day I ever experienced was August 2010 - I don't know the day but at the end of August it reached 49 degrees outside and it was like a hairdryer on your body. Even if there is a breeze and it is a average day, for example 26 to 28 degrees, on a summer's day don't let the breeze fool you to laying in the sun too long because the uv here is extreme. Even on an average day on the uv index it would be all around southern Europe 7 to 9 or 10 and temperaure may be higher than the Canaries. But Canarias can be 11 to 13 on the uv level index higher than anywhere in Europe, the same as the Carribean, Miami, Sahara and other tropical zones. I lived in Gran Canaria for 7 months altogether, not all at once but I know what it is like there and the weather on the internet annoys me because I know the weather there. I have been to Playa Ingles, Maspalomas, Meloneres, Puerto Rico and many other places you probably wouldn't have heard of. If you want to know what it is like there email me at tomkavcanaria@hotmail.com

Holiday

The best!

Places Recommended

Playa Del Ingles - good for night life, Puerto Rico and Amadores for the crystal clear waters, Maspalomas for the sand dunes and many more places that I have been to but there is not really many tourist only Canarios.

We went April 2010 for 2 weeks, the weather the first week was 44 degree's they were having some kind of heat wave from africa! (melted my shoes while walking) The second week was in its 20's and still really warm.

Holiday

Holiday was fantastic, the place we stayed in was lovely and the staff were very nice. They were bungalows, so its like having ur own little house and privacy.. They are right next to the pool. It was also gay pride and the shows and entertainment was brilliant!!!!

Places Recommended

We went on the safari, up in the mountains etc... absolutly brilliant for the kids as well as the grown ups.... you can book this at holiday world in maspalomas and i would recommend anyone that holidays in maspalomas MUST go on this, u get to stop and ride on the camel's too and u have lunch while there all in the price.

Weather

We went at the end of February for 2 weeks.

The weather was lovely we were able to sunbathe by the pool and take some lovely walks along Las Playa de Ingles beach.

It was cooler in the evenings, but not cold.

Holiday

It was so lovely. The people are so friendly and at the place we stayed they were so helpful with everything.

It was such a relaxing time, the pace of life so much slower and relaxed.

Places Recommended

Atlantico shopping center, clean and spacious and lots of wonderful shops, 5 euros on the bus takes you straight there.

Weather

The weather was great, 28 degrees. We went in October this year (2009).

We sunbathed every day and came home with a good tan, its now December and I'm still tanned.

We had no rain or clouds, blue skies all the way.

Holiday

We didnt want to come home. Everyone was so friendly and the food was great.

We stayed at Maspalomas, largo bungalows with 3 lovely pools. Only downside was that there were no fans or mossie nets in the rooms.

The food great there to and it was clean as well.

Places Recommended

The market at Maspalomas on a wednesday and Faro for nightime entertainment.

It was late April when we went and the weather was superb. hot...but not unbearably so.
The nights were balmy and certainly not too muggy and uncomfortable to sleep.
I loved it

Holiday

Superb...what more can i say .
There was so much to do and see. we would love to go back and do it all again....and the stuff we didn't get to do first time.
Car Hire is a must.
Just get on the main highway and keep going...you can't get lost.
You always come back to where you started. its such a great island!!

Places Recommended

Mogan.
Really pretty little place.
The beach at sunrise in Maspalomas....watch the sun come up and then take a walk along the sea edge with the man you love...bliss!
