Maspalomas Beach for October

Maspalomas Beach is renowned as Europe's unofficial nudist capital. This golden sand beach is vast, stretching all the way from Maspalomas lighthouse to Playa del Ingles, covering over 6km and is 2km wide, so there's definitely plenty of room for everyone. The nudist part of the beach can be found exactly in the middle, situated just in front the sand dunes. If you head over to the lighthouse at the far end of the beach you will come across a wide variety of restaurants, bars and cafes to choose from.

Bars and Restaurants

Casa Vieja can be found along the road to Fataga. This is a traditional Canarian style restaurant which boasts an countryside feel to it, due to its authentic meny and décor. Plus, there is live music every night from 8pm, so there's no excuse to miss this little gem.

Another option to try one evening is Rias Bajas in Maspalomas. This popular restaurant has been open in the resort for over 20 years, serving a delicious array of fresh seafood. Some of the most delicious dishes include the Galician broth and the succulent prawns from Huelva.

Strand-apo-Theke is a fantastic bar located right on the beachfront of Maspalomas. This is a German run and gay-friendly bar that serves all the classic alcoholic beverages as well as soft drinks. 

Another option to try is the Moonlight Sports & Karaoke Bar, which can be found at the front of the Holiday World Centre. This place is one of the largest bars in the area and features karaoke every night, as well as live sports on the widescreen TVs including Premier League Football.

Things to do in Maspalomas in October

Aqualand is a great place to go to on a sunny day. This gigantic water park offers a wide array of slides and rapids to choose from including the highly popular Kamikaze, Tornado, Boomerang and Adrenalina. If you're here with the little ones Aqualand also offers two children's areas to choose from, which feature small slides, paddling pools and waterfalls.

Maspalomas also boasts Europe's only permanent outdoor cinema. Enjoy the movies under the stars at this unique location. The Moonlight Cinema provides warm cosy duvet's to snuggle up in, as well as piping hot pizza. If it's a warm evening you may also want to enjoy the evening tucking into the delicious variety of desserts on offer such as New York Cheesecake and Carte D'Or ice-cream.

October is a great time of year to take to the golf course, as the temperatures are still high but not too hot. The Maspalomas Golf Course is situated next to the beachfront and sand dunes of Maspalomas. This is an 18-hole, par 73 course that includes a putting green, practice course, driving range, professional instructors, a golf shop and even a restaurant and snack bar.

One of the most well preserved natural pine forests on the island of Gran Canaria can be found at Parque Natural de Tamadaba. This flourishing natural park also boasts various protected birds species, which can often be found nestling in the pine forests.

Dates for the diary

October is a very busy month in terms of events. The Fiesta de la Naval is held every year in Gran Canaria's La Isleta district, found on the northern part of the island. The fiesta includes a maritime parade and fireworks to remember the historic attacks in 1595 by Sir Francis Drake.

Every year on October 12thSpain and the Canary Islands celebrate National Day, which is considered as a bank holiday. Many festivities are held, celebrating the history of Spain.

Around mid-October Romeria de Nuestra Senora de la Luz (Pilgrimage in honour of Our Lady of the Light) is celebrated throughout the island, with a procession of decorated boats honouring the Virgin.

Another event to look out for at the end of October and beginning of November is the International Film Festival of Las Palmas (Festival International de Cine de Las Palmas). This event is one of the most prestigious festivals on the Gran Canarian calendar, attracting famous movie stars and directors from around the world.
