Weather
Weather was superb when we went in August. We actually stayed over in Orebic, which is a lovely village.
Nice warm sunny days and cooler evenings.
We had one morning of torrential rain, and a cracking thunderstorm, boy did it rain, but by the afternoon it was all gone and normal service resumed, SUN!
Holiday
Lovely quiet place to holiday. The walled town of Korcula was lovely.Nice places to eat and plenty of photo opportunities. I must say the Croatians cook their fish to perfection. I would say its one of the best countries I have eaten in for a long time.
Not a lot to do at night. There are a few bars but mostly eataries.
The sea is clear but cool. Ferry trips are cheap, both by car and foot.
A tip for beach time would be to spend the money on an inflatable air bed as its easier on the back to lay on and you don't get so many bites. Watch out for the yellow wasps.
Also beware of the ants on some of the stone beaches, they bite rather badly. In the 2nd week of the holiday, which was the 1st week in september, the wasps seemed to come out more as it got cooler.
All in all the people are nice, food is nice, simple to drive around and the views are STUNNING.
Places Recommended
Lumbarda beach is one of the few sandy beaches. It's really nice with shallow sea.Another lovely town is Vela Luka. It's quite a drive across the island of Korcula, it is right at the bottom but worth the trip and there is a really nice harbour there.
To get to another great beach (stoney), on the penisular drive out of Orebic and head towards Tripanj. On the Tripanj road around half way there is a right turn, you can't miss it, I think it is signed Gorja Vrucica, take this road and follow it. It is long and quite lonely road. Keep going, don't turn off, and eventually you will find one of two beaches.
Be careful with the first beach car park, the ramp down to it is VERY steep. I drove on a little and parked in the stone layby a little further up.
The 2nd beach is further along and I just abandoned the car on road side, superb beaches. Have a look on Google maps to find the road to Tripanji.
I also recommend STON, its a bit on the posh side around the harbour area but Ston town itself is very cheap, especially the oysters, cheapest on penisular and very nice.
Try the local white wine. It's very syrupy, golden in colour and strong. Most of the resturants along the front in Orebic only stock the local brew, its well worth a try and an excellent price as well.
Stop off at the winery in the middle of the penisular, sorry I can't remember the name, but you can't miss it. The wine is rather expensive but wonderful, we bought two bottles a white and a red, its good stuff.
