I was there for 20 days and it was very hot averaging 30/34 every day except one when it rained heavily during the afternoon.Fantastic weather for September!
Holiday
I enjoyed it a lot, the scenery and views across the bay are stunning and on a clear day you can see the mountains 25 kilometres away.To get the best of the area go and explore the countryside and the small villages around. Take a bus or train into Pyrgos, the main town in the province of Ilia and wander the shops and sit in the main square and have a coffee or a bite to eat. Also explore the local market, bargains galore for fruit and veg especially.
Katakolon itself is now unfortunately a tourist trap. Huge cruise ships call here as it is the nearest port to Ancient Olympia. It`s a shame because it is a beautiful place.
Prices have sky rocketed here and there is a feeling of being ripped off for everything you buy or do. You get high prices but very poor value for money and the restaurants are moving away from there traditional roots and selling poor quality tourist fare at inflated prices. Beware of being overcharged and short changed!

Olympia
The beautiful sandy beach at Skafidia which is about 5 km north of Katakolon
