The area in general is much less developed than what you find in other Algarve resorts and serves as a nice change of pace. If you wander along the coastline you can see the different beaches that make this one of the best spots in central Algarve.
Things to do in Faro in February
With the average temperature being 13°C (55°F), chances are you will have a cool day on your holiday. Take this opportunity to see the Igreua de Nossa Senhora do Carmo in the Old Town part of Faro. The church was completed in 1719 and is gilded inside with Brazilian gold. The chapel's name translates to "The Chapel of Bones" and is quite literal. Inside this 19th century chapel you will find the walls lined with skulls and bones of the dead. Entrance to the church is free and entrance to the chapel is 1.
After seeing the church and chapel, be sure to check out the "Arco da Vila". This archway leading into Old Town commemorates a gateway to the city and was constructed by an Italian architect, Francisco Xavier Fabri, in 1812.
