Offering a great view of the sea, Sol Don Pablo is based on Bajondillo beach in Torremolinos. It is a group of three hotels, all on the seafront. 800 metres away from the town centre, there are nine swimming pools between the three accommodation blocks, along with a full entertainment programme, use of the hotel's gym and six bars. Sporty types will be pleased to know there are table tennis, bowls and tennis facilities available, although an extra charge is likely for use of the tennis court.
A decent bed and breakfast to consider is Monte Victoria Hotel in Malaga. Having opened a decade ago, it has been restored into a modest-sized charming B&B from an old 1940s family villa. Eight rooms are available, all with air conditioning and a fridge. A hearty breakfast is offered in the living room, along with a wide selection of hot and cold drinks.
Situated in a quiet area of Parador in Nerja, Apartamentos Latin offers direct access to Nerja's most popular beach, Playa de Burriana. Costa del Sol Beach for March
One of Nerja's most spectacular beaches is El Chorrillo Beach. It is accessed by going through Calahonda beach, and is a small cove with rocky crags adjacent to the nearby landscape. An isolated beach, the black, golden sand surface is dense in size; just 60 metres long, but it is very close to the city centre in Nerja and the establishments nearby. At night, the beach lights up, making the scene even more spectacular than it is at daytime.
The calm waters in the sea should make swimming conditions ideal, but without European Blue Flag status, this means gentle strolls in the sea would be preferred to having a long swim away from the shore. The services are limited and the beach is relatively quiet but is a nice place to come, especially for couples.
Playa de Calahonda itself is a great beach in Marbella to visit out of season, as it can get quite overcrowded in the summer. There are some decent beachside restaurants nearby; one of the best is the Royal Beach bar, which offers some great food and first-rate cocktails. It is a very pleasant venue to take long walks and contemplate the Costa del Sol experience.
This beach is ideal for all types of individual. Families can come to sunbathe for the day, while fisherman might be able to get a useful catch, and scuba diving is a recommended water-related activity. With Blue Flag criteria met, the excellent facilities and high cleaning standards provide the opportunity to have a superb time at Playa de Calahonda. Note that jellyfish can be common here.
Bars and Restaurants
Chinese restaurants are popular back in the UK, but they also make their mark in the Costa del Sol, particularly the Golden Wok in Marbella. It is a buffet-style restaurant, so the choice is varied and comprehensive. Along with plenty of Chinese options, other Asian cuisine is served at Golden Wok, including sushi and Thai.
If based in Malaga, holidaymakers should try Citron restaurant. Citron specialises in Mediterranean cuisine, but also has expertise in cooking Asian fare, as well as dishes with a Scandinavian twist. The quality of the food is high, which makes up for the slightly limited menu choice. However, do try the death by chocolate brownie served with cream and red berries - it is scrumptiously tasty.
Spanish bar Reinaldo is a top place to spend an evening in the town of Estepona. During the day, it serves tasty tapas, and come nightfall turns into a lively cocktail bar. There isn't a dance floor at Reinaldo's, but the music covers a good mix of genres and there's a nice outdoor terrace with tremendous views across the port. Entry is free and the drinks are well priced.
Pipers club in Torremolinos attracts a young, lively crowd. The disco's unique and slightly odd decoration of a plane suspended from the ceiling is a good conversation point if nothing else! Live acts are a frequent form of entertainment.
Things to do in Costa del Sol in March
Spain has some incredible professional golf courses. One of the best is in the Cadiz region in the Costa del Sol. The Valderrama Golf Course in Sotogrande has held some of golf's biggest tournament events.
It used to be home to the season-ending Volvo Masters event on the European tour, and staged the 1997 Ryder Cup, won by Europe and captained by the late Spanish icon, Seve Ballesteros. This is a brilliant course and will delight golfers of all levels due to its glorious natural scenery.
