What's the Weather Like in Copenhagen in October

October can be a beautiful time of the year to visit Copenhagen as the main crowds have subsided, but do be sure to bring a heavy coat and sweater in order to guard against the cold winds coming in off the Baltic Sea. Additionally, while good deals are in place for both hotels and flights, some of the sites and restaurants begin to close down in preparation for the coming winter months. As a result, be sure to check various websites in order to make sure that the places you want to see are indeed open for the time being.

Temperature

Temperatures continue their steady fall to the coldest numbers of the year with an average daily reading of only 10°C (50°F). Average afternoon highs are much colder than what they were during the previous month with temperatures only climbing to 12°C (54°F). While temperatures early in the morning are still averaging numbers well above freezing, this is the last month that can safely be said. Instead, during this time of the year, mornings will start out with an overnight reading of 7°C (45°F).

Rain and Average Sunshine Hours

Visitors will also have to make sure that they are properly packed in order to ward off the cold rain. On average, the region receives measurable rainfall over a period of 19 days throughout the month. As a result, there are many more wet days than dry ones and visitors will need to bring an umbrella or rain jacket with them. Overall, the region receives an average of 50mm of precipitation. Additionally, there is much less sun during this time of the year with only an average of 8 hours of sunshine per day.

Average Sea Temperature

Once again, the waters around the region have returned to conditions that are too cold to enjoy. Combined with the amount of rain the region receives during this time of the year, it is a good idea to plan outings on dry land rather than the beach. Throughout the month, the waters will only average 13°C (55°F).

Bars and Restaurants

If you're looking for a great steak in Copenhagen, then look no further than Restaurant KöD. While steak is the biggest draw here, the restaurant also serves a pleasing selection of seafood dishes too. You're able to have your steak exactly as you want it, and there's a good wine selection stocked alongside the meats. Bear in the mind that this isn't a suitable restaurant for vegeterian diners.

Those looking for fine dining will want to make a reservation at Kokkeriet. With a menu that transforms and shifts throughout the year in accordance with the times of year, there is a big emphasis on seasonable produce at this restaurant. With a Michelin star to its name, the restaurant also runs cookery classes twice a month, where guests get to partake in the work of gourmet chefs.

For sophisticated evening drinks, Curfew really is the place to go. Recently voted as one of the best cocktail bars in Copenhagen, the bar stocks a selection of luxury liqueurs, spirits and syrups that are second-to-none. With its quirky period decor, the bar has fashioned itself in the style of a Prohibition-era speakeasy and it makes a great place to unwind at the end of a busy day.

Lovers of books and coffee will lap up the ambiance of Paludan Bogcafe, which recreates the feel of a tranquil library amid the centre of Copenhagen. A big hit with students and those looking for a quiet space to read or catch up on some work, the cafe also serves a tasty selection of light dishes such as Chili con carne or tiger shrimps with bread, for very reasonable prices, too.

Things to do in Copenhagen in October

Located to the south of the city, National Aquarium Denmark promises a mesmerising day of family fun. The largest aquarium in Northern Europe, the building is surrounded by water on all sides and gives the feeling of being submersed by the sea; it's worth visiting for its impressive architecture alone. Check out the Ocean Tank, where hammerhead sharks swim alongside sting rays and moray eels or ogle at the anacondas and piranhas beneath the waterfall in the Amazonas section. Entry is free with the Copenhagen Card.

If you don't mind venturing further into Denmark away from the city, why not visit the original Legoland resort in Billund? Easily the country's most popular theme park, the resort offers a day of action-packed fun for adults and kids, with a host of rides and and a range of lego models that will impress visitors of all ages.

Those in search of history and heritage should visit the awe-inspiring Frederiksborg Palace, which stands as one of the finest examples of baroque architecture in the country. Built in the 1600s, the castle is stylistically very similar to Rosenborg Palace and has hosted the Museum of National History since 1878 and houses a staggering collection of artworks and artefacts. Castle hosts, dressed up in period costume, are on hand to capture the imaginations of younger visitors, while the beautiful landscaped gardens are also worth exploring.

Beer enthusiasts can't leave Copenhagen without visiting the Carlsberg Brewery. Start by taking a tour of the premises before enjoying the finished product at the end. Other onsite attractions include the stables and the world's biggest bottle collection.
