Sorted by popularity:

Located in the beautiful Languedoc region in the south of France, Carcassonne is a small but extremely popular holiday destination, namely thanks to its impressive medieval castle and walled fortifications, which are known as the Cite de Carcassonne.

The region is one of the sunniest places in France and has a typically Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and mild winters.

June marks the beginning of the summer and with it comes the peak tourist season in Carcassonne. The city sees approximately 3 million visitors a year and many of these choose to visit at this time of year.

The average temperature at this time of year is a warm 19°C while highs often reach sizzling peaks of 24°C during the day, which can feel very warm in the city. Luckily, nights are cooler and more comfortable in Carcassonne, with lows that drop to 14°C on average. This provides pleasant conditions for al fresco dining and evening strolls around the ancient cobbled streets.

Sunshine is also in abundance at this time of year and days are getting longer. Holiday makers can soak up an average of 7 gloriously sunny hours each and every day.

Rainfall levels have dropped quite steeply from May to June, and Carcassonne only sees around 40mm of rainfall throughout this month, which is minimal. This rain generally falls over 6 wet days per month, but most days will be clear and dry.

Some people recommend avoiding the city during the peak season months of June, July and August because of the crowded atmosphere and the warmer temperatures. However, this excited, packed-out atmosphere may be exactly the type of vacation you are looking for. It's hard to argue with the multitude of people who visit during the summer months in order to experience all the benefits of Carcassonne.
