We were lucky, and the weather was kind. Slightly better than in England, a little further south, so no problems.Holiday
We had a fascinating short break. There is a great choice of hotel accommodation from Chateau to 'Ibis'. The choice of restaurants is excellent, from gourmet to McDonalds, etc.For those who like old cities, cathedrals churches, museums and exploring on foot it is a great place. Originally it was an old walled city, some of which still remain. As Cambrai is on the join of two canals there is a lot of activity on the two. The tow path offers a lovely, peaceful walk, and the many locks make for an interesting watch when barges/boats are passing through. We thoroughly enjoyed our break and will definitely return.Places Recommended
There are several war cemetries, English and Canadian. The Cathedral is magnificent, as is the old Church, which houses an original Ruebens, as large as it is old. Being placed where it is, about 1 1/4 hours drive from the Tunnel there are many interesting museums which are very close. One is at La Coupole, where it is very easy to pass a whole day and still not take in everything that happened and was made there during the German occupation in WW2. There are also several other museums which are almost as fascinating. We will certainly be going back as a short break is lovely, but leaves you a lot more to uncover.Recommend Cambrai to others
