June is the beginning of the wet season in Bridgetown, but this does not mean you cannot still visit the beautiful resort.

Humidity is higher and precipitation increases dramatically from levels in May to 112mm in this month, but it is still restricted to 14 days, meaning half of the month is free from rainfall. Therefore, although packing an umbrella is a wise precaution, it is still perfectly possible to enjoy a trip to Bridgetown at this time of the year.

In fact, with 9 hours of daily sunshine and an average temperature of 27°C (81°F), a holiday to this area should be very enjoyable. Temperatures are the warmest of the year with highs reaching 29°C (84°F) and average lows not dropping below 25°C (77°F) so staying hydrated is a must.  Also an average sea temperature of 28°C (82°F) is great for a dip if the weather gets a bit muggy.

June is the start of the hurricane season so take precautions, but there have been no major hurricanes in Barbados since 1955.

Where to Stay

Merriville Guest House is situated on the Caribbean coast close to Bridgetown and is just a moment's stroll from the island's excellent white-sand beaches. The guesthouse features Wi-Fi and parking at a fee, air-conditioned apartments and rooms, plus a fan. The rooms also have a private bathroom, TV, a wardrobe and a shared kitchen. A short walk away is a tapas restaurant, lots of other dining options and Bridgetown city centre is less than a 12 minute drive away. Grantley Adams International Airport is a 20 minute drive from the guesthouse and Rockley Golf Course is just under 1.2 miles away.

Island Inn Hotel is situated on the south shoreline of Barbados, located in the Garrison district and a short walk from Pebbles beach. Advantageously near shops and eateries, Island Inn will astonish you with its straightforwardness and old world appeal. Whether you arrive alone, go with your family on vacation, or go through on business, the Island Inn Hotel offers an unrivalled warm atmosphere, contemporary trappings and a genuine Bajan experience.

Hit the Beach

Pebbles beach is situated on the south-western tip of Barbados and is unspoiled. Here turquoise waters lap delicately onto the white sandy shoreline while little vessels bounce farther out to ocean. Since the waters are extremely quiet this is a perfect shoreline for swimmers and for those with youngsters. Another great time to visit the shoreline is around dusk. As the shoreline is on the western bank of the Barbados, the sunsets here are really terrific!

Brighton Beach is located between the cruise terminal and the rum distillery, the smooth waters and the tropical trees, make this a perfect beach for swimming or sun bathing. The beach amenities include a snack bar, restrooms, lounge chairs and it is great for snorkelling with the clear blue water. The beach does get very popular with locals and tourists, but the long expanse stops it getting too busy even at peak times.

Paradise Beach is one of the quieter beaches near Bridgetown, it features shallow rocks, calm waters and is excellent for snorkelling. The beach is next to Brighton Beach and is separated by a small wood. There are no restrooms available, but you will find a snack bar and local shops have snorkelling equipment to hire or buy.

Eating & Drinking Out

The Cliff restaurant in Bridgetown overlooks the sea and hugs the side of a cliff, it has a solid reputation for excellence. This is probably one of the "most romantic restaurants in the world" and with the sea views it creates the perfect setting for romance. This restaurant is frequented by the famous and the wealthy jet-set, it is probably the most expensive on the whole island. An ever-changing menu with seafood dishes that are heavenly and dazzling desserts make this restaurant a must for culinary types.

Cin Cin by the Sea is a newish, but a very fashionable restaurant in Bridgetown that would not seem out of place on Miami's South Beach. This restaurant serves Mediterranean and Caribbean cuisine for lunch and dinner with views on to the sea with white washed walls. A true Bajan laid back ambience makes this restaurant a must for any lover of quality cuisine.

Bayside plaza, just outside of Bridgetown on the south shoreline of the island, is a little mall situated by the Barbados Yacht Club and at the side of Needham's Point. Real inns like the Barbados Hilton, Grand Barbados and the Island Inn are practically around the bend. The shopping centre's included store is the Town and Country Fashions boutique, which has a wide variety of attire and obligation free shopping offices. Eating is a must here, and the choice is extraordinary: Indian, Jamaican, Chinese, and Middle Eastern. A few eateries have open air seating.

Things to Do

Atlantis Submarine Tours based in Bridgetown offers a 2 hour trip with 40 minutes submerged up to 150 feet (45 metres) deep. On this trip you can experience the Caribbean Sea with all its colour and wonders including coral, tropical fish and shipwrecks. The submarine tour has 3 daily exclusions and includes a complimentary drink.

Welchman Hall Gully is one Barbados' remaining accessible tropical landscapes and is a fantastic place to see and feel the islands natural history. If you like plants, nature, hiking and a tranquil tropical forest, then this is the place for you to imagine what Barbados was like more than 300 years ago. The gully has 700 species of plants and is just under 1 mile in length. Barbados National Trust bought the gully in 1962 and more exotic plants, trees, plus ornaments have been added over the years.

Harrison's Cave is situated near the centre of the island in the uplands area and is one of Barbados' biggest wonders. Look in amazement at the white stream stones and in wonderment at the magnificence of the speleothems which embellish this cave. This living cave has crystal clear water in deep pools, flowing streams and high columns which are breathtakingly beautiful. A cavern of crystallized limestone is a natural wonder and definitely worth visiting.
