Things to do in Bintan in February

Chinese New Year takes place sometime between late January and late February and is celebrated in Bintan with traditional pageantry. Chinese singing and dancing is traditional, as is a lively parade. February is the rainy season in Bintan, though, so be prepared and bring an umbrella if you're going to see the celebrations and parade.

While in Bintan, you should check out a small town called Kijang, a historic mining town initially established by the Dutch. Situated on the southeast coast of the island, this town has no other attraction that the old mine. However, there are a couple of nearby villages and islands that might be worth visitinghether it's for seafood, beaches or drinks. There are no highways to this little town, nor any tourist attractions or resorts, so this is a good spot to visit when you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the resorts in the centre of Bintan. People often venture here to experience the local cuisine, as this town has not been commercialised as some of the other towns and cities in Bintan undeniably have. Seafood in this area is plentiful and the local restaurants are known for truly traditional fare, unlike what you might see in larger cities.

If you're feeling adventurous, Nirwana Resort Centre is an entertainment centre and collection of luxury resorts where you can ride an elephant at the Jumbo Park. They also have an air rifle and archery range, paintball and a bowling alley. Additionally, all kinds of water sports can be enjoyed there as well.

There are also numerous spots to rent all-terrain vehicles (ATV) for the truly active adventure seekers. These activities should keep you busy if the rain and wind make water activities a non-option in February.
