Very hot and humid with some sunshine most days. October is the end of the rainy season but we only had 2 days where it rained all day! Some days were overcast but still very hot.Holiday
The organised trips were very good and well worth doing. The elephant orphanage is a must as is the Temple of the Tooth and Sigariya.Don't bother booking a beach holiday on the West coast as the sea is too dangerous to swim in - the red flag is up every day!
The hotel rating system is bad - we booked 4 star and it would be no more than a 3 star anywhere else! Service was slow and quite poor. No matter where we went to eat in Sri Lanka the menus look the same and the food is barely warm.
You have to complain all the time to get the service you expect but they expect a tip for absolutely everything!
Places Recommended
Definately visit the Elephant Orphanage and the Turtle Hatchery.The Temple of the Tooth and the Botanical Gardens in Kandy are well worth the effort too.
Gem and tea factories are also very interesting and you can haggle some good prices out of them
