What's the Weather like in Amsterdam in July

July is one of the two hottest months of the year in Amsterdam and as a result is generally very crowded with tourists. 

Temperature

The highest temperature ever recorded in July was 32°C (90°F) with the coldest being 12°C (55°F). However, this is atypical and the average high temperature for the month is 21°C (69°F) with an average low temperature of 13°C (55°F), an increase on June's temperatures.

Notice there is not a lot of difference between the low and high temperatures thanks to the moderating effect of the nearby warm sea waters. In the month of July, visitors will only need a light jacket at night.

Average Sea Temperature

In fact, the waters off the coast continue to get warmer with temperatures near 17°C making water sports possible as Amsterdam gets deeper into the summer months.

Average Sunshine Hours

With about ten hours of sun per day, there is also plenty of time to get outdoors and enjoy the warmer and longer days.

Rainfall

It does rain at times in July, however, it tends to be light. On average, rainfall amounts for the month are between 63mm. Taking a light jacket should be enough to ward off any raindrops on a vacation in Amsterdam during July but checking the weather forecast is a good idea.

Greenwoods

Looking for somewhere to go for brunch? Greenwoods on Keizersgracht has to be your first option. Things to do in Amsterdam in July

The warmer weather during this time of the year makes it the perfect time to rent a bike and explore the city on your own. Like many European cities, Amsterdam is very bike friendly and easy to explore on two wheels. Visitors can always take a break and enjoy al fresco dining, which is very popular in Amsterdam.

There are numerous concerts in and around the city in the month of July with events on the main stage in Vondelpark at least four days of the week.

If visitors prefer to stay indoors during a trip, the Heineken Experience might be in order.  The brewery was established in 1864 and today is one of the largest beer manufacturers in the world. Open 365 days of the year, the self-guided tour will take about an hour and a half and visitors will get to sample some of the latest brews.

Gay and Lesbian Summer Festival

The Gay and Lesbian Summer Festival (Pride) also takes place in the month of July and includes a 10-film marathon of the year's best LGBT films.

Amsterdam Museums

Of course, all of Amsterdam's museums are open during the summer, but lines can be very long and museums will be crowded. Be sure to purchase tickets ahead of time, if possible, to avoid wasted time standing in line.

Melkweg and Paradiso

Anytime of the year, music is popular in Amsterdam and visitors can visit the Melkweg and Paradiso as two of the best venues, especially if visitors are on a budget. Paradiso is the cornerstone of the pop and rock music scene and is located in a former church that will often put on several events in one day. The Melkweg is home to a wide variety of music as well as a theater, cinema, art gallery and café.

Amsterdam Concertgebouw

Amsterdam Fashion Week takes place during July and features a wide range of events including pop-up streets, exhibitions and parties. For music fans, the Robeco Summer Concerts Series is held at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw during July and August and offers classical, pop and jazz concerts, and the Robeco Summer Restaurant offers three-course meals.

The Concertgebouw is also worth visiting just for the architecture, regular musical performances and theatres. There is a large selection of restaurants and accommodation options nearby.
