Average Sea Temperature

The first month of the year still brings very pleasant temperatures indeed, and despite the fact Amadores is classed as being in the winter months, it is still very possible to swim in the sea, with an average water temperature of around 19°C. Compared to many other resorts at this time of year, Amadore's weather sums up why the Canary Islands in general are nicknamed the 'Islands of the Eternal Spring'.

January has an average temperature of around 15°C, which is certainly t-shirt weather, although you may need a light jacket or cardigan for the evenings, with an average low of 12°C. Despite that, you can expect an average high temperature of up to 18°C great for January!

You may experience a little rain during January, with an average of 45mm, with 5 days experiencing some rain.

Average Sunshine Hours

However these downfalls are unlikely to be prolonged and will leave pleasant conditions behind, in fact January has an average of 6 hours sun per day.

Things to do in Amadores in January

Amadores Beach

The first month of the year begins with New Year celebrations, and whilst New Year's Day might be a quiet affair, with everyone recovering from the night before, a refreshing swim on the first day of the year is a great thing to do. Head to Amadores Beach for a chilled-out start to your month, and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Golfing in Anfi Tauro

Alternatively, you might enjoy a spot of golf, and in that case you're spoilt for choice. Amadores is home to many golf courses, indeed the whole south coast of Gran Canaria has choices for a few hours on the green. Head to Anfi Tauro as a choice in the resort itself.

Maspalomas Golf Club

As an alternative, you can travel just a few minutes out of town to Maspalomas to enjoy Maspalomas Golf Club for a change of pace. The temperate weather in January is perfect for enjoying a few hours outside, with a breath of fresh air to blow away the cobwebs.

Spirit of the Sea

Before the more extreme heat hits the island, head out on a boat trip and attempt to spot dolphins and even whales in the wild. You'll find a few choices if you head to nearby Puerto Rico, which is easily accessible via a pleasant clifftop walk, or the local bus service. Spirit of the Sea offers a redemption offer to customers who are unfortunate enough to not spot these mammals on their particular day, by giving a voucher to allow a repeat visit. Obviously nobody can predict whether dolphins and whales are going to be shy on your particular day of visiting, but managing to see these majestic creatures in the wild is something to behold.

Cruise and Shopping

Most dolphin and whale spotting trips last for around three house, so if you can get on an early cruise you could take advantage of the New Year sales in Puerto Rico and head off shopping. You'll find Duty Free offers on certain items, such as electricals, and there are also three large shopping centres to explore here, including Europa, with restaurants to enjoy as a pit-stop, before heading the short distance back to Amadores.

Dia de los Reyes Magos

If you are visiting Amadores on 6 January then you will privy to the Dia de los Reyes Magos, or Day of the Three Wise Men. This is a huge celebration across the whole of Gran Canaria and you will see street parades and celebrations in most resorts certainly one for the camera.
