Weather

January/April can be very pleasant, but also quite wet sometimes. May/June are probably the most clement months. July/August can get very hot and it is best to stay indoors during the afternoon. September/December are usually quite pleasant, but with very heavy thunderstorms at times.

Holiday

I live here, having fallen in love with the place whilst holidaying in the area 9 years ago. The following year I returned and bought an old run-down Cortijo for just 21,000, having discovered that the people of the nearby village of Almazora were very friendly and open and the village had all amenities - Small supermarket, 5 bars, Dr's surgery, post office and pharmacy. Albox is less than 10 minutes away for a wider choice.

Places Recommended

Markets - Monday Hurcal-Overa, Tuesday - Albox, Wednesday- Cantoria, Thursday - Olula del Rio, Friday - Garrucha, Saturday - Vera, Sunday - Fines. All within 45 minutes drive. Above Macael there is an eco-park at Las Menas, an old iron-mining complex, and about 1 hour inland is a thermal spring natural swimming pool at Cela, with a temperature of 26 all year round. It is surrounded by inexpensive bar restaurants and with trees and grassed areas. Some disused railway lines have been designated "Rutas verdes" - Green walks. There are many inexpensive bars, most of which serve food. About 45 minutes from the coast. Nightlife is quite limited unless there is a fiesta nearby, as there often is.

Weather

The weather in July/August is very hot and dry.

In January to March it is quite pleasant but you can get a bit of rain, and is quite chilly at night.

Holiday

The village is very laid back and not half as busy as tourist resorts.

There are outside cafes and an English supermarket, if you can't go without some of ol' Blighties goodies.

The surrounding areas are quite barren and the roads, even on weekends are traffic free.

We always stay in or near the mountains and the views are fantastic.

Places Recommended

There is a good outside market, selling fruit, veg, clothes and shoes etc in the small village of Arboleas, not too far away.

Would recommend for a quiet, out of the way, relaxing holiday.
