Battle of Santa Cruz 🏰

The Battle of Santa Cruz de Tenerife was a pivotal moment in history, where the British Navy, under the command of Rear-Admiral Nelson, launched a daring assault on the strategic port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The battle, which took place on July 22nd, 1797, was a fierce and intense conflict that lasted for three days.

The British forces, despite their determination and skill, were ultimately defeated by the formidable defenses of the Spanish defenders. The loss was a significant blow to the British Navy, but it also showcased the courage and resilience of both sides in the face of adversity.

To honor the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought in the Battle of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, an annual re-enactment of the historic event is held on July 25th at the Castillo de San Juan Bautista. This re-enactment serves as a powerful reminder of the struggles and triumphs of the past, and allows visitors to immerse themselves in the rich history of the Canary Islands.
