What's the Weather like in San Sebastian in May

Temperature

Average highs of 19°C and an estimated 13 hours of sunshine every day make the weather in San Sebastian in May truly spectacular. The clouds disappear as the temperature warms ensuring many more clear days at the beginning of summer. And with less clouds also comes more opportunity to enjoy the incredible views that this part of Spain has to offer, in between rain showers of course.

Rain

Due to the maritime weather, rain will always be possible in San Sebastian. Though May does usually expect up to 120mm of rain during the 30 days, this month does herald the start of the drier season and most rainfall is usually in the form of moderate to light rain. It is therefore only expected to rain in San Sebastian on 14 days of the entire month of May. And though there is the chance of some thunder storms, May does usually offer more days of bright sunny weather than wet ones.

Average Sea Temperature

The temperature of the sea increases to approximately 16°C in May, making it possible to enjoy the first beach days of the summer. And with peak temperatures of 33°C experienced in May back in 1996, there is always the possibility for some early sun when visiting the region at this time of the year.

On average, daily lows will not fall lower than 10°C. And though the lowest temperature ever recorded in San Sebastian in 1994 was just 1°C, it is more likely to average 11°C during this month.

Humidity

The warm temperature and strong chance of at least some rain in May does boost humidity levels. Average humidity in May is usually around 73%, making San Sebastian one of the most humid places to be in the Northeast of Spain in May. This humidity usually increase as the month goes on, with air drier at the beginning of the month and offering more moisture as we get nearer to June. However with a gentle wind blowing across the region, the climate is never considered uncomfortable.
