What's the Weather Like in Puerto Vallarta in September

September may well be one of the hottest months in Puerto VallartaMexico, but it's also the wettest. Thanks to the city's location close to the equator, it experiences a tropical climate complete with dry and rainy seasons. September is technically the end of summer, but it's also a part of the rainy season (June - October). This, however, means that there aren't as many crowds at this time of year, giving you more space to enjoy the cultural attractions on offer.

Temperature

During the day, temperatures can reach a very hot 32°C, though average temperatures usually sit at around 27°C. At night, the climate is still extremely mild, with temperatures rarely dropping below 22°C. If you're travelling to Puerto Vallarta at this time of year, you'll need lots of lightweight summer clothing for the daytimes, like t-shirts, shorts, and swimwear, but you might also want to pack a couple of thin, warmer layers in case it gets cooler after dark. Remember to pack suncream, too, as the sun is very fierce at this time of year.

Rainfall

September sees a lot of rainfall, with a whopping 358mm falling throughout the month over an average of 14 days. It's probable that you'll get caught in some showers at some point, so be sure to pack an umbrella and waterproofs. The good thing about the tropical location of Puerto Vallarta is that the downpours tend to pass quickly, leaving bright, clear skies in their wake.

Sunshine Hours

Even though September marks the end of summer, the hours of sunshine are pretty minimal for this time of year. You can expect around 7 hours a day throughout the month. This may not seem like a lot, but it still provides plenty of time to explore everything that the city has to offer.

Sea Temperature

Beach-goers flock to Puerto Vallarta year round for its beautiful beaches and fascinating marine life, but in the rainy season the crowds hold off a bit, meaning the beaches are emptier and quieter. This doesn't mean that you can't enjoy the coast, and with the sea temperatures languishing at a very warm 29°C, you'll want to get into the water and explore!

September may well be the wettest month in Puerto Vallarta, but it still has plenty of sunshine and soaring temperatures for visitors to enjoy. If you want to discover all the attractions that the city has to offer without the crowds, then it's a great time to visit.
