August is the final month of summer in Newquay and could be the last month suitable for relaxing on the golden beaches on offer.

August is jam-packed with events so make use of the end of summer to take in as many festivities as you can.

In the early stages of the month there is Harbour Sports Day, in which visitors are allowed to take part in a number of events such as swimming, sculling and surfing.

Early to mid-August sees Rip Curl Boardmaster, one of Newquay's most famous events. Rip Curl Boardmastershowcases various sports including skateboarding, BMX riding and surfing, coupled with entertainment and shows.

In mid-August visitors can attend the West of England Steam Rally, which is a large festival with more than 200 steam engines, crafts and fairground organs, and it takes place in St Agnes, about 11 miles from Newquay.

Nearer the end of the month is Cornwall Folk Festival, which takes place in Wadebridge. The festival has a mix of folk music, dancing and street entertainment, and it has its root from some 40 years ago.

In addition to this is the Bude Jazz Festival, which is hosted in late August and spills over into September. It's an eight-day festival with over 200 jazz-related events including concerts, and is considered one of England's top jazz festivals.

If you're in Newquay with the family, consider the Sands Resort Hotel and Spa. The hotel is lauded as one of the best family hotel's in Europe, with extensive facilities for kids, including a kids' club. Rooms are offered at low rates, so you can stay there on a budget.
