Sorted by popularity:

What's The Weather Like In Monte Carlo In January

In Monte Carlo the winter weather of December continues through January, but so does the festive atmosphere.  Air temperatures remain low and the sea becomes colder, with the average sea temperature in January being 13°C (55°F). While this isn't an ideal time for snorkelling and diving, due to lower water temperatures, many still take advantage of the calm Mediterranean water by wearing a wet suit.

January is historically the coldest month of the year for this part of the Principality of Monaco.  However, visitors will find that compared to other parts of Europe, Monte Carlo, enjoys rather mild weather, even in this cooler month. In fact, certain annual events are planned for this month in order to enjoy the relatively pleasant weather of Monte Carlo, at a time when other European destinations are cold and rainy.

Temperature

Visitors can expect high temperatures of 12°C (54°F) in January, with temperatures dipping below 8°C (46°F) on some given days or evenings, and a monthly average temperature of 10°C (50°F).

Rain

Despite the continued low temperatures, January typically receives far less rain than the proceeding months, with an average of 61 mm (2 inches) falling throughout the month, compared to December's average of 99 mm (4 inches). In addition to receiving only 61 mm (2 inches) of rain during January, there are relatively few rainy days throughout the month. On average, Monte Carlo has around 5 rain days in January, and visitors are likely to experience a number of sunny days at any point in the month.

Sunshine Hours

During January visitors should expect less hours of sun per day than other parts of the year, and the shorter days mean less daylight to enjoy Monte Carlo's gorgeous seaside location. Throughout the month visitors can expect an average of 6 hours of sun per day. This is certainly less sunshine than in many of the summer months, and accompanied with the lower temperatures, may deter sun seekers from visiting at this time of year.

Monte Carlo Hotels In January

Hotel De Paris Monte Carlo

January is the month to choose luxury and comfort over proximity to the water, and this month is a particularly good time to take advantage of lower accommodation prices. As such, the best of hotels are those providing the highest quality services, even when the weather doesn't cooperate. When it comes to elegance and decadence, Hotel de Paris Monte Carlo is an exceptional luxury hotel. Located near from the Casino de Monte Carlo, Hotel de Paris Monte Carlo means events, performances, and entertainment are only steps away. As well, within the hotel are internationally recognized restaurants and the highest quality wine cellars, making Hotel de Paris Monte Carlo a destination itself.

Hotel Métropole Monte-Carlo

One hotel that truly delivers the glitz and glamour Monte Carlo is known for is the Hotel Métropole Monte-Carlo. The Hotel Métropole Monte-Carlo is a world-class, 5 star hotel, and when it comes to beautiful architecture, few hotels are more stunning than the Hotel Métropole Monte-Carlo. A major renovation completed in 2004 means the Hotel Métropole Monte-Carlo is now as contemporary and modern as it is classically beautiful.

Bars And Resturants

Maya Bay

As with all things Monte Carlo, the food, like the visitors, is rich, lavish and gorgeous. Monte Carlo's picture perfect location on the Mediterranean results in amazing seafood dishes prepared by Michelin quality chefs. However, Monte Carlo's dining options span the globe, and some of the best places for a meal are inspired by far-off cuisines and cultures. For example, Maya Bay, located at 24 Ave. Princess Grace. Reviewed as the best Thai food in Monaco, it is likely one of the best Asian restaurants on the French Riviera.

Jimmy'z/Le Tip Top

When the sun goes down, the hedonism and exuberance of Monte Carlo heat up, and there is no shortage of wine bars, cocktail lounges and nightclubs to enjoy. One late night s that exemplifies the glamorous attitude of Monte Carlo is Jimmy'z. Jimmy'z is the favourite of celebrities, VIPs and those who want to see and be seen.  However, the drinks are, expectedly, expensive and those on a budget should head for more reasonably priced drinks at Le Tip Top.

Things To Do In Monte Carlo In January

Casino De Monte Carlo

Monte Carlo is a city that knows how to entertain and impress at any time of the year, and in January visitors will find no shortage of things to do. The impressive Beaux Arts style building is home to one of the most famous gaming and gambling complexes in the world.

In addition to the world known gambling floors, the Casino de Monte Carlo is home to the Opera de Monte Carlo. Officially called the Salle Garnier, the Opera de Monte Carlo is often the venue for performances by the Les Ballets de Monte Carlo and the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra.  The Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra season begins in January, making it an exciting time to take in a performance by this internationally recognized orchestra.

Rallye Automobile Monte Carlo

At the end of January one of the most exciting events takes place in Monte Carlo the Rallye Automobile Monte Carlo, also known as the Monte Carlo Rally. Auto racers begin at locations all over Europe, which are equidistant from Monte Carlo, and culminate in a "rally" or finish in Monte Carlo. Since the initial race in 1911, the Rallye Automobile Monte Carlo has long been considered a celebration of the power and ingenuity of the automobile, and this annual event draws celebrities and socialites from around the world, in addition to being a highlight for locals in Monte Carlo.

For those who prefer to be by the sea, sadly the cooler air and water temperatures mean certain beach activities such as swimming and boating are not ideal in January. However, a stroll along Monte Carlo's gorgeous seaside promenade is always in season.
