Although many would assume that September is a time of year when tourism is beginning to wind down in Mallorca, they would be wrong.

As a matter of fact, September is still considered summertime on the island, and tourists and citizens act accordingly.

The northern and southern beaches, such as Formentor and Es Trenc, respectively, are still packed with people who hope to catch the last truly summertime rays. Swimming and windsurfing are popular activities, as are snorkelling and scuba diving. Of course, sunbathers and those who roam the beaches to relax are also welcome.

Although September is still warm enough for beach activities, tourists may not be in the mindset of summer this late in the season.

In that case, they can take in the sights of the city, visiting the museums and historic landmarks, such as Castell de Beliver, a fortress that dates back to the 14th century. The fortress sits atop a hill, providing a perfect picnic spot with unbelievable views.

Markets in the cities of Santa Maria, Alcudia and Sa Pobla are open on Sundays year round, giving visitors a chance to get a taste of the local culture. There is also a market on Wednesdays in Sineu. All of these are less than 32 miles (50 km) away from Palma, the capital.

The average temperature for Mallorca in September is 71.5°F (21.9°C).

The average low temperature is 62°F (17°C).

The average high temperature for the month is still an extremely high 82°F (28°C).

The average sea temperature, 73.9°F (23.3°C), will be warm enough for swimming all month long.

The average precipitation is higher than the previous months, but not by much. It only rains about 1.28", or 32.6 mm, on an average of 4 days during the month of September.

The average hours of sunlight daily are 7.
