Temperature

Although slightly cooler than July, the average temperature at the lake this month reaches a warm 23ºC (73ºF) with highs of an average 29ºC (84ºF). The lowest temperature at this time of year, including night time temperatures, is an average 19ºC (66ºF), making it the perfect month for dining outside under the stars at some of the cafés and restaurants which line the lakefront of most of the towns and villages. As is the case for most of the summer months, the temperature at the lake tends to be slightly warmer at the southern end than at the north where it is shaded by the mountains around its shores.

Sunshine Hours

The days are long on the lake at this time of year with an average of 11 hours of sunshine, meaning that visitors have plenty of time to fit in many of the activities the lake has to offer from sightseeing to water sports before the sun goes down. Things to do in Lake Garda in August

Follow in the footsteps of Francis of Assisi and explore the beautiful island of Isola del Garda with its historic buildings and stunning gardens. Located in the southwest of the lake close to San Felice del Benaco, this private island was once the site of a Franciscan monastery and later the site for the Venetian neo-gothic Villa Borghese Cavazza which still stands today. The real treat in August is to wander around the beautiful shaded landscaped gardens with their own groves of fresh citrus fruits, olive trees and rare plants.

Those who want to explore the area under their own steam should rent a mountain bike and explore the numerous trails that crisscross the Valtenesi region on the western shore of the lake from Desenzano to Salò and beyond.
