Sorted by popularity:

Ko Samet is the largest and westernmost of a cluster of islands not far from the coast of Thailand. It is located in the Gulf of Thailand off the coastline of the Thai province of Rayong, approximately 220 kilometres southeast of Bangkok. The forest-blanketed, exotic island used to be a pirate hideout and now it's a popular holiday destination for international tourists.

Ko Samet has a tropical savannah climate and is one of the driest archipelagos in Thailand. The island's rainy season extends from May to July, during that time, tropical monsoons hit Ko Samet but they tend to be short and are often broken up by long periods of sunshine. The island has generally arid climate (most pronounced during August) but is full of lush forests.

In January, only 2 days of rainfall is expected and average temperatures float around a warm 28 degrees Celsius with the sun shining for 9 hours each day. The sea water temperature is the same as the air temperature, so invitingly warm.

One of the most beautiful and popular beaches on Ko Samet, Hat Sai Kaeo (literally meaning crystal sand beach) is a great base for activities such as snorkelling, swimming, jet skiing and sailing all year round. There are several quality eateries walking distance from the beach, too. When night falls, the beach becomes a hub for nightlife activities and beach parties.

There are many snorkelling trips for newbies and seasoned snorkellers alike. Some eponymous snorkelling destinations include the "Adventure trip to 7 islands" and the Coral island trip where snorkellers can explore the coral reefs around the island.

Scuba diving enthusiasts should pay a visit to Samed Resorts Diving Center at Ao Prao beach. Beginners who want to get started can do so at the Koh Samet Dive School, also located at Ao Prao. There you will find affordable diving courses and inexpensive scuba diving equipment you can hire for an entire day.

If you are looking for affordable yet quality accommodation Vongdeuan Resort has got it covered. The Vongdeuan offers old world colonial charm, clean rooms and smooth and friendly service.
