Ko phi phi Weather for August 2017

What's the Weather like in Phi Phi in August

August in Koh Phi Phi is the beginning of cloudier skies that lasts on through to November and is the last month of the summer sunshine. You can expect the average amount of rain from the wet season as it continues on until December. There is not much difference in August than the previous months of the wet season, with the exception of a higher percentage of cloud coverage.

The start of August has highs and lows of 30.5 C (87 F) and 25 C (77 F) with the lowest cloud coverage and chance of rainfall of the month, so make sure to take advantage of these conditions to explore the island while they are favorable. On around the 10th the highs peak at 31 C making this the warmest point of the month.

The lows continue a downward trend towards 24.5 C (76 F) at mid-month with cloud coverage and rainfall rising steeply as they coincide with each other. By the end of the month the highs along with the lows drop down to 30.2 C (86.3 F) and 24 C (75 F) respectively. This marks the lowest point of temperature at the end of the month. Rainfall and cloud coverage continue their rise closing in on their peak during the next few months at 60% chance of rain and 82% (mostly cloudy) cloud coverage.

The average temperature in August is 28 C (82.4 F) which is a continued pattern from previous months as the temperature fluctuates only slightly throughout the wet season. The effect is that the average sea temperature remains the same at 29 C (84 F) which is normal for Koh Phi Phi throughout the year.

The amount of rainfall in August drops slightly from July and is almost even with that of June at 273 mm divided into 18 days of the month. The type of rain you can expect in August is mostly between moderate and light rain, but there is a chance of thunderstorms. The tropical nature of the rain is very sporadic and usually comes in short, heavy bursts in the afternoon, so don't be concerned about it ruining a full day on Koh Phi Phi.

August is the last month with a decent amount of sunshine at an average of 6 hours daily before autumn begins. Although this may not seem like much, it is mostly due to the cloud coverage increasing as the month progresses. This is purely an average and some days you can expect there to be more hours of sunshine and some days there may be less.

    Phi Phi Hotels in August

There is no shortage of places to stay on Koh Phi Phi as the island is dotted with hotels of all kinds and in almost all locations. A great place to stay on Koh Phi Phi which is close to the town center is Coco's. This place is great for those who want a place close enough to walk to town, but far enough to not be bothered by the party scene at night. The rooms are spacious and provide wifi which is uncommon on Koh phi phi.

A nice spot quite a distance from the town center is Le Rendez Vous which is a restaurant and a hotel with a great view of the ocean. Phi Phi Beach for August

Although it is wet season, it is still summer in Koh Phi Phi and that means that the beach parties are in full swing. If parties are not your thing, you can still find a secluded beach to relax. A good beach that is quite secluded is Monkey Beach which can be reached by long tail boat or a kayak. This beach gets its name from its furry inhabitants who do not shy away from people, especially if you have food for them. Aside from the tour boats which come and leave quickly throughout the day, you will most likely be left alone to relax, as long as you don't rile up the monkeys.

If you want to go a little further out south from Koh Phi Phi Don, head on over to Koh Phi Phi Leh. This island includes Maya Bay where the blockbuster film "The Beach" was filmed, but that is not the only place to go. You can wander around the island and find one of its many beach faces which may just be secluded or you can head to Maya Bay and find yourself amidst a wonderful beach party.
