What's the Weather Like in Ko Lanta in July
Temperature
Ko Lanta begins to cool down slightly in July, when the resort experiences some of the lowest temperatures of the year. But with daily average highs of 31°C, there's no need to reach for a jumper just yet. Instead, you can relish in the fact that you are not getting the scorching hot climate that March and April can bring. Yet you can still enjoy many bright, sunny days.
On average, daily temperatures in July will reach 28°C, with night time temperatures falling to just 25°C. This is only one degree higher than the coldest months of the year, but still feels very warm, even when compared to peak temperatures in other parts of the world.
But with this relatively cooler weather, also comes an increased chance of rain, thanks to the monsoon type climate that this time of the year is so famous for in Thailand.
Rainfall
An average of 12 days in July are likely to experience some form of rain in Ko Lanta. And with a forecasted 270mm of precipitation expected throughout the month, some of the down pours are likely to be heavy. But even when the rain is falling, the temperature remains high, offering humidity levels which can reach up to 82%. And while this is not as high as the peak humidity levels of September, in more jungle areas, it can become uncomfortable.
Wind
The wind can get a little stronger in Ko Lanta in July, even when the rain is not falling. This means there is some fresh air to combat that high level of humidity, especially near the shore. It also means that the sea will be a little choppier, offering some challenging waves for the wealth of surfers that come to the area at this time.
However, if you are going to surf in Ko Lanta in July, check the forecast before you go. If the weather is likely to take a turn for the worse, the tides can get very strong.
Hotels in Ko Lanta in July
Lanta Wild Beach Resort
When you want authentic accommodation on Ko Lanta, you can't go far wrong with the Lanta Wild Beach Resort. This family run resort is situated directly on the very popular Klong Khong beach. But it is still a full ten minute walk from the main activity, so noise is not such an issue. If you want to get out and see the island, then rent a motorbike off the hotel, they give all their residents good rates. And if there is anything else you need, just ask. The very friendly staff are always on hand to make your stay more comfortable. Sadly, the bungalows are only equipped with fans, rather than full air conditioning. But in the cooler month of July that shouldn't be a problem. And if you have a day that is particularly hot, just sleep outside. A night under the stars is an experience you will remember forever.
MOONLIGHT Exotic Bay Resort
As the name suggests, you can't really appreciate the true beauty of the MOONLIGHT Exotic Bay Resort until the sun goes down. But even in the middle of the day, this luxury resort is still very impressive. Though the hill top rooms do provide a challenge for those with mobility issues, they certainly provide the best views. And with that cool July wind blowing, you may not even need the highly efficient air conditioning. The beauty of the resort provides the perfect back drop for a wedding in Thailand. And the honeymoon suite provides the perfect location for the post nuptials. Lounge on beanbags next to the sea sipping your favourite cocktail. This place is luxurious in every sense of the word.
Bars and Restaurants
Panorama
As you would expect from a restaurant called Panorama, the views are incredible. Built into the side of the hill, this is not one of the most well-known places to eat on the island. But that's probably because the people who come here want to keep it all to themselves. Situated on the east side of the island, its' not just the outlook that makes this restaurant special. An incredible range of delicious food is on offer, and it can all be washed down with a cool beer, that even comes in a frozen glass. Even if you only want a coffee, the owner's sister has a coffee plantation on a neighbouring island and gives her brother all the best beans. With a homemade brownie on the side, it's the perfect way to spend a day.
